Cubs are doing very well.

under Transactions, it states the Cubs signed a FA catcher named Dan Canela on 2 OCT. I looked him up, age 23, but Drafted by the Tigers in 2009 (did not sign, I guess?) out of Florida.
He played in River City of the Frontier independent League last year. Awesom STATS, .360 BA, .455 OBP, power, 41 walks in 270 plate appearences.
Behind the plate only 4 errors in 404 chances. Throwing out runners, only 19%.
How did the Cubs get the opportunity to sign Dan Canela?

Looking at the Cubs top 20 prospects, its hard to believe that Brett Jackson is still listed at #13. Also Arodys Viscaino at #6 has not pitched the last two years. They are still young, but at what point does potential turn to disappointment?
Viscaino can still have a impact, but after not pitching for two years, shouldnt he be dropped from the Top 20?
Jackson had a horrible season, in my mind, that alone should have dropped him out of the Top 20.

An update on Vizcaino: He had a setback this season but did finally pitch in two games in the Cubs instructional league in Arizona recently. As for the top 20 rankings, those were last updated at the All-Star break. Do they need to be refreshed? Yes.

I am thinking that Jackson needs to be dropped from the top 20 and K Hendricks added for sure.

Well the charts just aren’t that reactionary…. bjax is on his way off…. vizcaino tho has great potential and could come down some but he could be a top bullpen arm for us and maybe even starter once he gets some innings under him.

It’s too bad about Jackson, he did have his opportunity as did Vitters. They may be on the same road out of the organization….

In talking to some of the Cubs’ Minor League coaches who worked with Jackson this summer, they were encouraged at the end of the season. Both he and Vitters have had nagging injuries that keep them from having a full, healthy season, which also is keeping them from having success.

Carrie, dont know if you have any info on Daniel Canela, but if and when you do, can you pass it along?
His STATS in only 270 plate apearences in the Independent League were insane.

That is good to know Carrie. Once (if???) they move past the nagging injuries then we can expect them to shape up….or ship out.
