11/14 Congrats to Mesa

The Mesa Solar Sox clinched the East Division and reached the Arizona Fall League Championship Game with a 9-3 win Thursday over the Glendale Desert Dogs. Jorge Soler had two hits and Kris Bryant scored three runs for Mesa, which finished 19-11-1. Bryant went 1-for-3 and posted a .364 average. The Solar Sox will play the Surprise Saguaros on Saturday in Scottsdale for the AFL Championship.

Bryant also had two walks. No Cub pitchers in this game, but very curious why Almora only received one At Bat? Looks like he started in CF, was it an early double switch, was he injured?

Almora reportedly left the game early with a minor injury.

I was wondering that myself. Hopefully today’s off day is all he needs and he’ll be good to go for tomorrow’s championship game. As for the long run, he’s been banged up a bit this year, so hopefully he isn’t the type of player who you can pencil in multiple DL stints per season. Injuries can certainly derail a promising career, so let’s hope a few months of rest will make him fully healthy for 2014.

Is the Championship contest going to be televised?

Wish I could tell you jhosk, but I cant find any info.

There’s a post on the main cubs.com page now that says it will be on MLB Network at 2 pm CT. I’d double check your listings just to be sure.

Thanks to both Jasper and Doug for your attention to this matter.

Heres something interesting. Yahoo is reporting that the Cubs signed INF Jeudy Valdez to a contract. Valdez has played 2B in the Padres system for 8 years. Last year playing at AAA. ( according to the article I read )
The real interesting part is: The article states this is the 2nd Padres prospect signed out of the Padres system this off season. The other a 26 y/o OF named Aaron Cunningham.
I am on the road a lot, but I did not hear about a Cunningham signing. Maybe I missed it? However I look on the Cubs MLB Transaction link and its not listed there either.
I know I did not miss an announcement on OCT 2nd on the signing of C Daniel Canela, that one however did show up on the Transaction site.
I would love to hear about these signings and a little history of the player signed.

Then you look up Aaron Cunningham and find out he played for Texas, not the Padres last year.

The Cubs did not officially announce these signings, which is why you haven’t read anything here. I did get confirmation on Cunningham, and read today that Yankees farmhand Walter Ibarra also has signed a Minor League contract. Am doing the best I can to keep you up to date

I understand you have a personal life and need sleep Carrie, I think we all do. Also understand a lot of these things happen late.

Cunningham played for the Athletics, Padres and Indians, and spent last season on the Rangers’ Triple-A Round Rock team

From what I’ve been reading, the Cubs team is still at work building up the Farm System with quality players, which is exactly what they are supposed to be doing. It’s good to be able to know what’s going on so we can be ready for seeing some of these unknowns in Cubs uniforms sometime in the future. With the Solar Sox winning their championship, we can be expecting to see the same type of growth at the major league level next year, with a fight for the top in 2015.
Just my opinion
