Interesting, wheres Olt? I understand everyone cant start, but isnt Olt a guy Management is hoping will be the starting 3rd baseman?

This is just a 6-inning scrimmage, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I’m sure Olt will get plenty of at bats and every chance to win a spot on the 25-man roster this spring.

I just found that very interesting Doug. I am very hopeful you are correct.

I hope so too. Now if it’s 2 or 3 games into regular Spring Training and he hasn’t seen the field yet, then I’d start to wonder what’s going on here. I do find it interesting that they have Javier Baez in the lineup. Looks like that, even though they’ve already made it clear that Baez will start in AAA, he’s going to get a nice long look at this spring.

I may be wrong, but wasnt it last Spring that Baez made an impression also? I think he hit 4 or 5 Home Runs and hit pretty well, not positive?

I think you’re right. He also hit a few homers against a Japanese team that the Cubs played twice last spring, but they didn’t count in the official spring training stats. He definitely has the power of a Major League power hitter already. He might still need to work on a little plate discipline, which is true of a lot of young players. Hopefully a few months in AAA will benefit him on that front. And hopefully it will on fielding too, which might be the main reason he is not yet ready to play everyday in the Majors. He’s probably not going to be a gold glover anytime soon and might still switch positions (depending on how Starlin Castro looks this season) before he comes up, but a little more work at the higher levels of the minors could go a long way for his career.

I but a $50 spot on Team 2.
