4/10 Lineup shift

Rick Renteria abandoned his left-right platoon and started right-handed hitters Mike Olt and Junior Lake against Pirates righty Gerrit Cole on Thursday. Part of the reason is the splits against Cole are almost identical. Left-handed hitters have hit .252 against Cole, while right-handers have hit .250.

“These are two young players who we’re going to try to get them as much playing time as we can,” Renteria said of Olt and Lake. “We’re trying to find spots that can give them an opportunity to gain some confidence.

“Everybody on the squad, everybody, from [Darwin] Barney to [Ryan Sweeney] to [Nate] Schierholtz, every one of those guys has been working real hard and they all want to be in the lineup,” Renteria said. “We’re just trying to balance it all out and give us the best chance on a daily basis.”

Sweeney and Schierholtz have started against right-handed pitchers this year, but they are batting .174 and .118 respectively. Lake was hitting .273 while Olt has two home runs and was batting .158.

The Cubs have scored 21 runs in their last three games after scoring eight runs in the first five games. What gives?

“Their approaches are solid and they’re getting good pitches to hit,” Renteria said. “They’re feeling a little confident now, which is good.”

Who in the dam hell told Luis Valbuena to bunt in the 9th inning??????? Another loss for the cubs—– If that was a coaching call he needs to be benched!!!!!

A successful sac bunt would have put the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd with only one out. That would have given the Cubs two chances to score at least the tying run with only a single, or a deep fly ball on the next batter. And if the Pirates decided to intentionally walk the next hitter to set up the DP, then the pressure would have been on Grilli to not walk in the tying run. It wasn’t a bad call, it just wasn’t executed.

Went to soccer practice,it was 4-0,what happened? As far as trying to bunt the men over with no outs,I am glad that was called, obviously must not have worked out,but what happened to the lead.Pitch count,Wood looked like he was cruising.

Kenly Cub good morning! Hope you see my note to you at 4/10 Cubs Lineup!

You cited something that happened in your life that is not directly related to Cubs` baseball, Kenly. Be careful that some mental midgets on here do not villify you for that. I welcome your mention of soccer, as you must know, or anything else that may occur in our everyday lives, along with commentary on baseball.

jhosk it is all good,or as my daughter would say cool beans. This is a open forum and we all have input, just seems like lately some has been trash.Talking about trash,I have to admit that last seasons ending series I hoped for a Cubs sweep and fell flat on my face! Two out of three this time Cubs fans!
