6/11 Cubs lineup
Jason Hammel starts tonight in the third game of the Cubs’ four-game series against the Pirates. Here’s the lineup:
* Hammel enters the game with a 14-inning scoreless stretch, tied with Jeff Samardzija for the team season high. Travis Wood last had a longer scoreless innings stretch by a Cubs starter, spinning 16 2/3 consecutive shutout frames in May of 2013.
Hammel has a 0.88 WHIP in his first 12 starts this season, second-lowest in the Majors. Since 1914, it’s the lowest WHIP for any hurler in his first 12 starts as a Cub, percentage points ahead of George McConnell, who had a 0.88 WHIP (0.8808 vs. 0.8843) in his first 12 starts as a Cub in 1914-16 (thanks to STATS Inc.)
* Luis Valbuena is batting .362 with nine doubles, two homers, eight RBIs and a 1.023 OPS in his last 21 games since May 13. His average is second best in the NL in that span (min. 75 PA), surpassed only by Milwaukee’s Jonathan Lucroy (.373).
