6/12 Bonifacio out of game

Cubs leadoff batter Emilio Bonifacio had to leave Thursday’s game after his first at-bat with a right rib cage injury. Bonifacio grounded out to short on the second pitch of the game to start the Cubs’ contest against the Pirates, but he never left the batter’s box. As he swung, he fell to the ground, grimacing in pain. Head athletic trainer PJ Mainville had to support Bonifacio as he limped off the field. Bonifacio, who was 1-for-11 in this series, was replaced in center by Junior Lake, who was to start in left. Chris Coghlan entered the game, and took over in left.
