6/14 Minor matters – Friday’s games

Dallas Beeler served up six runs over 6 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 7-5 loss to Sacramento. Ryan Kalish hit a bases-loaded trip, driving in three runs.

Dustin Geiger hit a two-run homer to lift Tennessee to an 8-2 win over Mississippi. Geiger finished with three RBIs. Kris Bryant had a hit and picked up his league-leading 57th RBIs.

Daytona is off for the Florida State League All-Star Game.

Yasiel Balaguert hit his fourth home run but it wasn’t enough as Kane County lost 3-2 to Beloit. Paul Blackburn gave up two runs on four hits over five innings.

What a debut. Kyle Schwarber hit his first pro home run, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, in Boise’s 4-2 win over Tri-City in the season opener. Schwarber belted a three-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Schwarber was the Cubs’ first-round pick in the June 5 Draft. David Bote had three hits.

“It’s awesome that it came at that point,” Schwarber told the Idaho Statesman.

This was one of Schwarber’s first games with a wooden bat. What’s also impressive is that Schwarber admitted to having a few butterflies.

“Anyone who plays their first game is going to have jitters,” Schwarber said. “I’m not going to lie, I had them.”

I like that it did not take long at all for the young man, Schwarber, to see action after signing. That`s impressive that he went yard in his very first game. And please keep him at catcher. I do not want to hear he`s being moved to the outfield or anywhere else, for that matter. He likes the position very much. Said as much. That`s rare.

I agree jhosk, but you have to keep in mind, the people that say he may be moved to the OF are all baseball media experts.
Where he is weak at catching, he will be coached and worked with. If improvement dont come, then he will be moved.
I tend to think the Cubs scouts have a better perspective on a player than expert media.

We need to bring up Schwarber now !….he is tearing up the Idaho league!
