6/27 Ramirez gets two-pitch “W”
Neil Ramirez picked up his first career win in the big leagues. He didn’t get a celebratory beer shower. In fact, he was a little embarrassed.
“In that situation, it’s almost like you don’t want to get that win,” Ramirez said. “[Travis Wood] is out there battling for seven innings. If I could, I’d transfer that ‘W’ to him. I never thought my first win would come as a reliever throwing two pitches but that’s the way it shows.”
Ramirez entered with two outs in the seventh inning Thursday to face Anthony Rendon, needed two pitches to get the out, and was the pitcher of record. The Cubs scored the go-ahead runs in their half of the seventh.
“A team ‘W’ is more important than anything,” Ramirez said.
