7/2 Cubs lineup

Travis Wood gets the start Wednesday in the Cubs’ series finale against the Red Sox, and no, he won’t be batting. Wood is hitting .250, and it would be tempting to let him swing, but instead Luis Valbuena will be the designated hitter. Here’s the lineup:

Coghlan LF
Ruggiano CF
Rizzo 1B
Castro SS
Valbuena DH
Castillo C
Schierholtz RF
Olt 3B
Barney 2B

T. Wood P

I would prefer to see Wood in the line up, put Valbuena at 2b and let Wood hit.
The line up is better with him in it.

Normally I’d say, no way I’d let any pitcher bat over a DH, but given the fact that Wood has had a few big hits this year and the Cubs offensive after Rizzo, Castro, Bonifacio in April, and flashes of Valbuena, has been pretty bad this season, it’s hard to make that argument! About the only thing I’ve got is Wood can relax between innings and focus on and save energy for pitching. I have a feeling that within a few years, the DH will be a Major League-wide rule and whether Wood bats or not will be a moot point.

Sounds like Clark is the “All-Star” ! Let’s let him be our PH! Can’t you just see the fans faces if he walked to the plate! :))

Forest Gump sighting.

Hallucinations? Another Gump sighting?

You should see my face when I see Junior Lake come off the bench to PH.

Does anyone have a list of Cubs minor league players who will be eligible for Rule 5 draft this off season?

you can bet the best of those pitchers will end up being protected though.. Hendricks, Jokish, edwards

That was a great list to compile…….thanks Tyler………..yes, Hendricks & Edwards for sure has to be protected….teams always look for players who are ready for the Majors to steal……………I look at our current 40 man roster……..will be a few who will not be with us (trades, free agency, waived)……I figure around 18 players will be off that current list……so I figure Theo will protect a few more minor league players.

What a night for Barney, if I was him I would retire, wait 4 years and write my HOF speech.

Aloha Jasper- I was just thinking how great the lower part of the batting order did tonight! Between Schierholtz-Olt-Barney they had 8 out of the 19 hits. I have been bringing up frequently the dismal RISP stat but lately our Cubbies are improving and tonight they were 8-17! Anyhow, out of the three above I mentioned, I know we may not see 1 or 2 of them come the end of July but it was neat that they all could produce in a series on the road! Mahalo! PS: Hope this offense train continues into DC!

It was a fun game K. g. Pitching looked terrible, but the bottom of the order covered for them.

Hallucinations and now compulsive obsession disorder? My oh my!
