7/4 Minor matters – Thursday’s games
Arismendy Alcantara had two hits, including a double, and drove in one run in Iowa’s 4-3 loss to Omaha. Dallas Beeler gave up two runs on eight hits over six innings in his first start since pitching for the Cubs. Alcantara, named to the PCL All-Star team, has hit safely in 13 straight games, and was batting .463 (25-for-54) in the streak. Tsuyoshi Wada pitched two innings. Wada will likely start Tuesday in one of the Cubs’ doubleheader games vs. the Reds.
Dustin Geiger had two hits, including his 11th home run, in Tennessee’s 4-3, 16 inning loss to Montgomery. The Smokies out-hit the Biscuits, but went 3-for-19 with RISP.
Daytona’s game vs. Brevard County was rained out, and will be made up in a doubleheader Aug. 12.
Cael Brockmeyer had two hits, including his third home run, in Kane County’s 10-2 win over Peoria. David Bote had two hits and three RBIs. Shawon Dunston Jr. also had two hits, including a double. Daury Torrez gave up two runs — both unearned — on six hits over seven innings.
Trevor Clifton threw six shutout innings in Boise’s 4-0 win over Tri-City. Jeffrey Baez hit his fifth home run, most in the Northwest League.
Mesa led the padres, 5-2, but the game was suspended after three innings because of the wind. Jorge Soler went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Eloy Jimenez was 1-for-2 with a RBI.
