8/1 July numbers

* Anthony Rizzo tied for the Major League lead with eight home runs in July. He scored 19 runs, tied for fourth in the NL in the month.

* Chris Coghlan led the Majors with a .376 batting average in July. The White Sox’s Jose Abreu was second at .374. Coghlan’s batting average was the highest by a Cubs player in July since Michael Barrett batted .386 in 2006.

I didn’t watch the whole game last night, but what I saw was excellent. Hendricks looks like a surgeon.

I watched it. He looked good. The trades for Hendricks and Arrieta have proven real good so far.

I am kinda liking the trades of, Dempster, Garza, Maholm, Feldman, Samardizja and Hammel.

I noticed that the Giants promoted two players yesterday from its AA team. “Sometimes you’ve got to win and develop at the same time,” Sabean said, “and that’s what we’re trying to do.” Hopefully next year the Cubs will be in a pennant race and can call up players like Russell and Schwarber.
