Updates on #Cubs Baez, Schwarber
Javier Baez was placed on Triple-A Iowa’s disabled list Monday with a fractured ring finger on his left hand. Jason McLeod, Cubs senior vice president of scouting and player development, said the best case scenario would be for Baez to return in six weeks. A more conservative estimate is eight weeks. Baez was batting .314 at Iowa before the injury Sunday.
McLeod said there has been no talk about promoting last year’s first-round pick Kyle Schwarber to the big league team to be a DH for upcoming Interleague games. Schwarber was batting .324 in 52 games at Double-A Tennessee with 12 home runs, seven doubles, one triple and 37 RBIs,
“He’s off to a great start, and all we want him to do is focus on what he’s doing in Tennessee,” McLeod said. “Right now, the focus is on Kyle being at Tennessee and continuing to improve and we’ll see what happens down the road.”
So, no chance Cubs fans will see him in Detroit on Tuesday?
“There’s been no discussion other than the Draft over this past week,” McLeod said.
