The Cubs’ Kris Bryant was second, Miguel Montero third, and Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro both fourth at their respective positions in the latest 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot, released Tuesday.
Bryant, named the NL Rookie of the Month for May, has received 1,513,913 votes in the balloting for third basemen, and trails the Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter, who has more than 3 million votes.
Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt has taken over the lead in the field of NL first basemen with more than 2 million votes, and is followed by the Dodgers’ Adrian Gonzalez, and the Cardinals’ Matt Adams. Goldschmidt was elected a starter by the fans in 2014, and has received 2,010,049 total votes en route to surpassing Gonzalez, who has a total of 1,882,725 votes. A two-time All-Star, Montero, who ranks fifth in slugging among all NL catchers, was third in the latest balloting behind the Cardinals’ Yadier Molina and the Giants’ Buster Posey. Dexter Fowler, who has never been named to an All-Star team, was 12th among NL outfielders.
Castro, a three-time All-Star, was fourth among NL shortstops behind the Cardinals’ Jhonny Peralta, the Giants’ Brandon Crawford and the Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki.
