Arrieta welcomes Draft pick Morrison to #Cubs
In the eighth round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Cubs selected TCU pitcher Preston Morrison. Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta also went to TCU, and knows the right-hander.
“He’s pretty polished,” Arrieta said. “He doesn’t have overpowering stuff but he moves the ball all over the place, in and out of the strike zone. He’s got a good sinking fastball that he throws as well as a change up and shows a good change of speeds. He’s able to move his slider from right to left, from a nice three-quarter arm angle, which gives him some nice deception. He can pitch deep into ballgames. I’m happy to have him.”
Arrieta has stayed in contact with the TCU baseball program since he played but had not worked one on one with Morrison. Not yet.
“The intent now is to welcome him to the organization,” Arrieta said.
First, TCU will be playing in the College World Series, facing LSU on Sunday. Arrieta will be watching.
“After that point, he’s a Cub,” Arrieta said.
