#Cubs Minor League report: Torres 5-for-5

Chris Valaika hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th and Christian Villanueva and Taylor Teagarden each homered in Iowa’s 8-7 win over Colorado Springs. Villanueva hit a three-run homer in the first. Dallas Beeler started and gave up one earned run over five innings, striking out six. Gonzalez Germen picked up the win in relief, and now is 4-0.

In his second rehab start, Jacob Turner gave up two hits over five shutout innings in Tennessee’s 4-1 win over Jacksonville. Turner walked one and struck out three. He threw 63 pitches. Albert Almora had two hits and Stephen Bruno had two hits and two RBIs.

Jonathan Martinez gave up two hits over six scoreless innings in Myrtle Beach’s 7-1 win over Lynchburg. Martinez, who the Cubs acquired from the Dodgers in the July 2014 trade for Darwin Barney, struck out one. He’s now 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in three starts this month. Victor Caratini hit a home run and Mark Zagunis had two hits and two RBIs.

Gleyber Torres went 5-for-5 with a double, two-run homer and three RBIs and Erick Leal gave up three runs over 5 1/3 innings in South Bend’s 7-3 win over Peoria. Cael Brockmeyer hit his fifth home run, Yasiel Balaguert had three hits and Jesse Hodges and Andrew Ely each had two hits.

Short-season Class A Eugene opens its season Thursday at Everett while the Arizona Rookie League team starts Saturday in Mesa.
