#Cubs Minor League report: Happ homers again; Olt update

Sunday’s games

Chris Valaika and Rubi Silva each homered in a 14-8 loss to Round Rock. Drake Britton took the loss, giving up 11 runs on eight hits and four walks over 2 2/3 innings. Silva finished with three hits and three RBIs and Arismendy Alcantara had three hits and one RBI.

Tennessee closed the first half with a 9-2 win over Mississippi. Ryan Williams gave up one run on four hits over six innings. Mike Olt was 1-for-3 in his third rehab start, hitting a double and walking twice. He’s now 4-for-9 with two doubles, a triple and five runs scored in three games. Neil Ramirez struck out all three batters he faced in his second rehab outing. Stephen Bruno had three hits and three RBIs and Dan Vogelbach had three RBI.

Myrtle Beach totaled 12 hits in a 4-1 win over Lynchburg to complete the first half of the season. Daury Torrez gave up one run on four hits over six innings for the win. Chesny Young had two hits and was batting .366 this month.

Tommy Thorpe threw five shutout innings in South Bend’s 5-1 win over West Michigan. Jesse Hodges homered, a two-run shot.

Eugene gave up nine runs in the sixth to los, 9-8, to Everett. Ian Happ, the Cubs’ first-round pick, homered for the second straight game, and also hit a double. Varonex Cuevas had four hits and one RBI and Eloy Jimenez had two hits.

The Mesa rookie league team returns to action Monday against Arizona.
