#Cubs Minor League report: Schwarber, Szczur shine

Tuesday’s games

Kyle Schwarber was 3-for-5, hitting a solo home run and two doubles, in Iowa’s 8-3 win over New Orleans. Matt Szczur had two hits, including a leadoff home run, and a double and drove in one run. Drake Britton got the win, giving up three runs over 5 1/3 innings. Arismendy Alcantara had three hits and a stolen base.

Pierce Johnson gave up one run on three hits over seven innings in Tennessee’s 3-1 win over Birmingham. Wilson Contreras had two hits and Elliot Soto had three hits.

Myrtle Beach lost, 3-1, to Winston-Salem. Mark Zagunis had two hits, including a double.

Zach Hedges gave up one run on seven hits over eight innings in South Bend’s 2-1 win over Fort Wayne. Yasiel Balaguert smacked a game-winning twor-un homer in the seventh.

Justin Steele gave up one earned run over five innings in Eugene’s 6-4 win over Vancouver. He struck out six. Frandy Delarosa had two hits and one RBI. Ian Happ drove in a run.

Jose Paniagua hit a grand slam in the third to help Mesa beat the Padres, 9-2. Paniagua finished with two hits.
