#Cubs Minor League report: 3 HRs for Iowa

Friday’s games

Christian Villanueva, Mike Olt and Arismendy Alcantara each homered in Iowa’s 5-3 win over Omaha. Junior Lake also had two hits, including a double. Jeffry Antigua gave up two runs on two hits and one walk over five innings.

Stephen Bruno had two hits and drove in two runs in Tennessee’s 6-4, 11-inning loss to Biloxi. Eliot Soto also had two hits and drew three walks. Billy McKinney hit a two-run double.

Jonathan Martinez gave up one run over seven innings in Myrtle Beach’s 2-1 win over Carolina. Carlos Penalver scored the winning run on a fielding error in the ninth.

Yasiel Balaguert hit his sixth home run, a two-run shot, in South Bend’s 9-7 win over Lake Country. Rashad Crawford had three hits and three RBIs.

Eugene lost, 12-3, to Tri-City. Andin Diaz took the loss, giving up eight runs on five hits and three walks in one inning. Ian Happ had two hits, his fifth multi-hit game of the season.

Dylan Cease threw three scoreless, hitless innings, in Mesa’s 6-1 win over the Giants. He struck out three. Joe Martarano had three hits, all doubles.


Iowa pitcher Carlos Pimentel has been added to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. He will join Arismendy Alcantara on the squad, which will face All-Stars from the International League on Wednesday in Omaha. Pimentel is 6-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 16 games.
