#Cubs add Soriano, say goodbye to EJax
The Cubs made it official Monday, announcing they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Rafael Soriano from Triple-A Iowa. To make room on the roster, right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson was designated for assignment.
Soriano, who will wear No. 29, will be available Monday night in Cincinnati.
Soriano, 35, signed a Minor League contract with the Cubs on June 9, and threw seven scoreless appearances between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa. He struck out seven over seven innings, and held opponents to a .174 batting average.
Jackson, 31, went 16-34 with a 5.37 ERA in 82 appearances (58 starts) for the Cubs. This year, he was 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA in 23 relief appearances. Jackson will be missed by the players. Anthony Rizzo, Jason Motte and Jason Hammel posted goodbyes on Twitter:
