#Cubs lineup: Beeler vs Rockies

Dallas Beeler makes his third start this season when the Cubs play host to the Rockies at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. Here’s the lineup:

Fowler CF

Schwarber C

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Soler RF

Denorfia LF

Castro SS

Beeler P

Russell 2B

* Beeler’s two previous starts have been as the 26th man in a doubleheader. He did not factor in the decision in his last start in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Reds. The right-hander gave up five runs (three earned) in two innings.

* There are reports the Cubs are looking for starting pitching help prior to Friday’s Trade Deadline, and that they have had talks with the Padres. One target is pitcher Tyson Ross.

* Despite Monday’s win, the Cubs showed that the back end of their bullpen may need some help. Cubs relievers have given up 14 runs over 15 1/3 innings in the last four games.

* Anthony Rizzo is hitting .129 (4-for-31) with one extra-base hit and one RBI in his last eight games. Overall in July, he’s hitting .218 with one homer in 22 games.

OK, there’s a story here somewhere about letting go of Richard and feeling Beeler can fill the gap — or perhaps Richard didn’t fit into the clubhouse–or maybe a trade is pending, in any case. Can you write an article on the why and wherefore of the release of Richard. Maybe I missed it. He seemed fine through 5 innings, if not 6, if I recall correctly.

9 earned runs in 15 innings pitched, era of 5.90….I think you may not be recalling correctly. Not the Beeler is the answer but Richard was just a quick gamble. He did have some good minor league numbers with the Pirates, but obviously they let him walk too.

Never understood why we didn’t give Edwin Jackson another shot this year in the rotation. We were paying him all that money anyway you cnt tell me he would have been any worse than beeler and Richard.

I think he just ran out of shots….

Joe Blanton just released by the Royals….don’t tell me…a Cubs tryout ala Clayton Richard???

Aloha Fonzie, I am sure you just saw that Beeler walked two, gave up 4 hits and 4 earned runs. Another person asked why not Wada today who has had quality starts at AAA? Thought that was a good question. Anyhow, I think this could be a long night for the bp, just hope the offense can come around again. Mahalo.
