#Cubs Minor League report: 3 HRs back Wada at Iowa

Monday’s games

Tsuyoshi Wada gave up two runs, none earned, over six innings in Iowa’s 8-3 win over Memphis. Mike Olt, Chris Valaika and Christian Villanueva each homered. Olt was 3-for-5, Valaika drove in three, and Villanueva had two RBI. Wada struck out six and walked one, giving up four hits. It was his fourth quality start with Iowa.

Tennessee had Monday off and resumes action Tuesday against Montgomery.

Jen-Ho Tseng gave up three runs over seven innings in Myrtle Beach’s 4-3 win over Carolina. Jason Vosler hit a three-run homer in the sixth. Trey Martin’s sacrifice fly in the seventh was the game-winner.

South Bend had Monday off, and resumes action Tuesday against Great Lakes.

Donnie Dewees had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs in Eugene’s 9-5 win over Boise. OScar De La Cruz gave up five runs over five innings and got the win.

Mesa had Monday off and resumes action Tuesday, finishing a July 5 game against the D-Backs that was postponed, and then playing the originally scheduled game as well.

Why Beeler and not Wada making this start tonight? I know Wada pitched last night, but easily could have used an extra day of rest and pitched tonight for the Cubs.

Aloha riverbear, I too have wondered about, thinking Wada-san is ready but he has had issues in the past, maybe they are thinking he needs to show he can go so many innings consistently. By the way, nice to see Mike Olt hitting. Mahalo!

Either because Wada is still on a rehab assignment and he’s not deemed fully ready to return to the Majors, or because Beeler still has options and they want to leave a spot in the rotation open for if/when they acquire a new starter and they’d rather kick the can down the road one more time on Wada than have to DFA him now. Either way, when the Cubs do acquire a new starter, you probably won’t see either Wada or Beeler again until September, if at all.
