#Cubs Hammel starts vs Brewers

Jason Hammel gets the start Wednesday night as the Cubs play the Brewers in Game 2 of their three-game series at Wrigley Field. Here’s the lineup:

Fowler CF

Schwarber LF

Coghlan 2B

Rizzo 1B

Bryant 3B

Soler RF

Montero C

Hammel P

Russell SS

*Hammel is 7-0 with a 2.18 ERA lifetime vs. the Brewers, including a 2-0 mark this year. In his last start, Hammel was pulled in the fifth inning after giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander has given up nine runs over his last 13 2/3 innings.

*Matt Garza gets the start for the Brewers. He gave up three runs on four hits over six innings on Aug. 1 in a loss.

*Anthony Rizzo is batting .405 (17-for-42) with five home runs and 15 RBIs against the Brewers so far. He’s also batting .474 (18-for-39) in his last 11 games.

*James Russell picked up the save Tuesday. He’s the seventh Cubs pitcher with a save this season, most for any team in the Majors.

I would rather see Castro at 2nd base than Coghlan. He has a better infield mentality and from what he showed last night can move from SS to 2nd and do well. Loved his catch in the 9th inning!

I believe Coghlan gets the edge early in games in Maddon’s mind because of his bat. Late in games with leads he has gone away from Coghlan for defensive purposes. I think as long as he is serviceable and not a liability, he gets the starts for now. He’s hit better all year than his .250 avg suggests.

Aloha Folks- Another wild one! I hope Rondon is able to settle down, one cannot be throwing wild pitches against teams like the Pirates, Cardinals, etc.. A blessing that Montero could come through in the 10th. All important games right now and love how Madden is working with all of his players, including having the “talk” with Castro. Mahalo!
