Pingback: #Cubs Minor League report - Cubs Chronicles

Anyone who passes through the Myrtle Beach Airport these days hears a message from the Cubs` skipper. It is very close to the following: ” I`m Joe Maddon, manager of the Chicago Cubs. Welcome to Myrtle Beach, home of the Pelicans and future Chicago Cubs` baseball players.” I know that because I experienced that today, Friday.

Very nice jhosk, did you get to a game?

Yes, jasper. Saw the Pelicans play Lynchburg Friday August 14th. The home team did lose that game, but rebounded nicely winning the following games Saturday and Sunday. In addition to wanting to observe the Cubs` affiliate, I was interested in seeing a player on the Lynchburg team whom I followed closely when he performed for the U. of Virginia; namely, Mike Papi. Papi reached base four of his five ab`s in that game, including two walks and a double. The last time I looked Papi was tied for the league lead in walks with a Pelicans` player whose name escapes me at the moment.

Aloha jhosk, that is cool! I hear you are supposed to get rain between Tuesday to Friday! Any chance you can re-route some of that! Would not mind watching the games next week in the rain! I am sure you saw that MadBum hit his 5th homer of the season. The record is 6 by the Big Z (Zambrano)! I am pulling for the Giants big time! I want them to take the next two games, feel good about their road trip then come home and “let-down” against Maddon and company. The Pirates & Cardinals seem to “dodge bullets” as you say but in the end this young Cub team has to do it on their own as it builds character. The team needs a quality start from Haren tomorrow. Take care now. Mahalo!

Yes, k.g., I wish I had the power to relieve that drought condition y`all have had to endure far too long. I did get to see most of that Giants/Pirates game last night, and MadBum `crushed` that pitch he homered with. It was a `no doubter.` He`s clearly the best hitting pitcher in the game. He`s tied for the league lead in wins with Jake at 15. New acquisition Byrd had three knocks. But it was on a pitch Marlon Byrd bounced back to the pitcher at one point that the Pirate broadcasters were most impressed with Byrd. He ran as fast as he could to first even though there was little chance he would be safe. The commentators observed that it`s rare to see major leaguers do that these days.

Aloha jhosk- very true about Byrd. Jon Miller of the Giants was talking about how this lineup will be scary once Hunter Pence and Panik come back in and they get Tim Hudson and maybe Lincecum in September. But the offense could really ramp up. Cubs pitching is really going to have to dig in because the Giants are hungry, eying the division from the Dodgers. Quality starts are needed now. I am not sure if Wada will be apart of this team next year but I hope when they expand the roster he can be, maybe he could have a little of that magic from last year come back for the month of September. Jasper asked the question about what the lineup may look like next year and of course said for starting pitching he could only see for sure: Arrieta & Lester as part of the rotation. I sure hope Hammel & Hendricks can get back on track maybe they put in Richard from time to time as well. Today newly acquired Leake goes for the Giants against Cole, big game and Dan Haren is on the mound for the North Siders, I hope he can go 6-7innings. Take care now and enjoy your time watching the “young-bloods,” play! Mahalo!
