waiting for the comments for Szczur to get a chance…….ugh….

Believe he will be part of a trade in the off season. He will have a better chance to play elsewhere with all the talent we have.

doubtful…. there is no value there…

Arrieta has placed himself in the Cy Young award running. As ESPN`s Tim Kurkjian suggested today, Jake may be slightly behind Zach Greinke, but the gap is miniscule.

He’s definitely in the running, but behind both Greinke and de Grom, running neck and neck with Kershaw, ahead of Scherzer.

I`ve heard it said Jake has surrendered just one long ball to the last 349 batters he`s faced.

Soon there will be September call-ups. It will be nice to actually have a bench full of position players. Here are my nominations:

Javier Baez: for pinch-hitting and infield help
Matt Szczur: for the defensive outfielder spot; pinch-hitting against lefties, speed
Mike Olt: pinch-hitting and back-up at first
Christian Villanueva: for infield defense
Arismendy Alcantara: speed, infield and outfield defense

Brian Schlitter: for when you need a groundball; he has been sensational at Iowa
PJ Francescon: ditto at Tennessee

Francescon isn’t on the 40 man roster. He would need to bump someone off to get the call.
