Aloha Folks! Well kudos to Hammel! I am curious about his conditioning this off season going into ST, if he took any pointers from Arrieta. I am sure Carrie will let us know. He did a great job in his 5innings. Very encouraging. And for Soler, Kawasaki and all the folks that came in as PH and produced, props to them as the RISP stat for the game was 8-14! Mahalo!

Re: Hammel, I wrote a story Feb. 18 regarding his offseason conditioning.

Aloha Carrie- Thank you for your reply, will have to check your story out as I missed it. Take care now! Mahalo!

Aloha k.g. Thought it interesting tonight when Sutcliffe commented on the game broadcast that perhaps utility players the likes of LaStella and Kawasaki may need to be worried about Negron. He`s can play multiple positions and has been impressive offensively. {Aside: I trust the Golden Bears have `game-planned` for Stefan Jankovic Friday.The Serb is a force, and the leader of a deep veteran team.}

Aloha jhosk- was just talking with a person in the area who was a basketball coach and has a lot of friends and contacts from high school all the way into the NBA. He feels that teams with a “deep” veteran presence will go far in this years’ tournament. So you are correct to point out Jankovic and the rest of the Rainbows. Will not be easy for the Bears who have to show that they can win on the road. By the way, Schwarber had a good day behind the plate which is encouraging and his ole college team took care of business too! Aloha Friday! Mahalo!

Yes, k.g., I reckon I heard it said last night that Schwarber is expected to be Hammel`s personal catcher, much the way Ross is Lester`s. Therefore, Kyle will be behind the plate every 5th day presumably. It was interesting the way Kyle set up for pitches last night with his right leg fully extended in the direction of first base when receiving pitches. (All this to place less stress on his legs, we`re told.) Just learned this morn that Cal`s point guard broke his non-shooting hand in practice yesterday and will miss the tournament. This is a major blow to the team`s fortunes. Tyrone Wallace is not only the team`s leading scorer, but also its best defender. All bets are off now, I would think. Hawaii has a legit shot at winning today. And yes, we’re going to get Indiana versus Kentucky tomorrow, always `must see` television. It`s like getting a `Final Four` caliber contest in the second round.

Aloha jhosk, at work so this short comment. Suffice to say, I called my father he said he was waiting for the call. I asked him if “Hawaii 5-0” took out out “Michael Jordan/Stephan Curry (sp?)? Good win for them, messed up my bracket! Such is life, thank God for Cubs baseball! Mahalo! PS: Carrie reported the roster was trimmed a lot, including Contreras. I am sure we will see him soon…September!

Yes, k.g. The takeaway from today`s Cubs` game is that Hendricks pitched well, as you acknowledged on another thread. The result is not important, as we`ve commented in the past. This is still spring training, and the games do not count. If the Cubs lose games beginning April 4 and thereafter, that will be a totally different matter. Did you notice that Michigan State was vanquished by a team named Middle Tennessee from Murfreesboro? This represents one of the most remarkable upsets in `March Madness` history. This was a No.15 taking down a No. 2. Many believe Sparty should have been a No.1, but I digress. Dick Vitale and many others predicted Sparty would win the `national championship` in 2016. I do not mind telling you I`m thrilled these experts have been proved mistaken. Is why I love `March Madness.` Middle has a guard named Giddy Potts. That name is destined to go down as one of the most memorable names in the pantheon of `March Madness` history, I predict. I`m pulling for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, even though they’re in the same regional as my Virginia Wahoos. I can confidently predict Middle will win its next game. That`s because the opponent is the Syracuse Orange, whom I`ve seen play on many occasions this season, and am not impressed with. Many believe Syracuse should not have even been selected for the field, and I`m one of those. Teams like Monmouth and others were more deserving.
