Final: #Cubs 5, Royals 2

Jason Heyward drove in two runs and Jorge Soler belted a two-run homer in a four-run fifth to power the Cubs to a 5-2 victory Sunday over the Royals in front of a Spring Training record crowd of 15,523. The previous high was 15,446, which the Cubs set March 4 in their home opener.

*Up next: The Cubs have an off day Monday, and will resume Cactus League play Tuesday against the Reds in Goodyear. Jason Hammel will get the start then, his fourth. So far, the right-hander has given up one earned run over 10 innings in his previous outings. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Arizona time, and you can listen to the broadcast on Cubs.com.

That was an impressive audience for today`s game. The Cubs attract more spring training fans than any team one cares to name, if I`m not mistaken. Didn`t they set a record for attendance last season at the Mesa venue? {Aside: there was a Bill Murray sighting in St. Louis tonight at the NCAA March Madness contest betwixt Xavier and Wisconsin. Bill`s son, Luke Murray, is an assistant to the Xavier Muskateers` head coach, Chris Mack. I mention this because I`ve heard it said Bill Murray is a passionate Cubs` fan, and has been for many decades.

Aloha jhosk- yes, Murray is a big Cubs fan; cool to hear about his son. I am happy about today’s win. I hope Lester can really work on his defense and throw to first. Maybe a few more simulated games can help him because he cannot think that this “explosive” offense is always going to get him out of jam, sometimes the hitting goes “cold.” It just happens. Take care now. Mahalo!

It is starting to come together, the last week of ST, Joe will be putting the regulars together.
The really good news thus far, the Pitching of Hendricks. Prospects like Candelario, Contreras and Andreoli.
The concerning part is the BP, Grimm, Ramirez, Strope and Rondon. Although Strope and Rondon did well yesterday.
There is so much competition for the last couple spots, it makes me wonder what happens with Szczur? Also cant wait to see the AAA Roster.
Its going to be a fun year.🙂
