Final: Giants 5, #Cubs 2
Matt Duffy hit an RBI single and a solo home run to back Jeff Samardzija and lead the Giants to a 5-2 victory Saturday over the Cubs in front of 15,403 at Sloan Park. The Cubs now have drawn 180,148 fans to 12 home games in Mesa, an average of 15,012.
Samardzija retired the first 11 batters he faced before Kyle Schwarber lofted a single to right with two outs in the fourth. One of those hits was a solo home run by Addison Russell, who the Athletics traded to the Cubs to get Samardzija.
John Lackey, expected to be slotted into the No. 3 spot in the Cubs rotation, gave up five runs on six hits over five-plus innings, striking out six.
