#Cubs vs Angels – plus roster
Kyle Hendricks gets the start Sunday in Anaheim in the Cubs’ final exhibition game before the regular season starts. Here’s the lineup:
Manager Joe Maddon says this is close to being the Opening Night lineup, but just got the info from the “geeks” re: Monday’s matchups vs. the Angels’ Garrett Richard.
“I’ve still got one more thing left,” Maddon said in terms of some research. “It may be a little different tomorrow.”
He hasn’t made up his mind regarding who will be the DH — another option is left-handed hitting Tommy La Stella. Plus, Maddon has a lineup routine. He likes to get his coffee, go over the numbers, then jot down the lineup and send it to coach Brandon Hyde, who relays the info to the players
The Cubs did set the 25-man roster, and placed four players on the 15-day disabled list, including infielder Javier Baez, who is sidelined with a left thumb contusion.
The others on the DL include right-handed pitcher Dallas Beeler (right shoulder inflammation), right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks (hip contusion), and infielder Christian Villanueva (right fibular fracture). All four players on the disabled list are retroactive to March 25.
The Cubs’ final 25 includes 13 pitchers, including the rotation of Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Jason Hammel and Kyle Hendricks, plus relievers Clayton Richard, Travis Wood, Adam Warren, Pedro Strop, Justin Grimm, Trevor Cahill, Neil Ramirez, and Hector Rondon.
The rest of the roster includes catchers David Ross, Kyle Schwarber and Miguel Montero; infielders Tommy La Stella, Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist, Addison Russell and Anthony Rizzo; and outfielders Jason Heyward, Dexter Fowler, Matt Szczur and Jorge Soler.
