Recently someone on here made the ill-advised suggestion that the Cubs should cut David Ross loose. That ain`t going to happen for a multitude of reasons. You can read about them in today`s `USA Today.` Ross is a ‘natural born leader` whom his teammates love, and his place on the roster this season is as guaranteed as that of anyone you care to name. That is certainly the conclusion I`ve arrived at after having read this piece. As you know, he`s announced he`s retiring after this season. He wants to be a manager one day, and most believe he`ll be a superb one. His role as back-up catcher suddenly took on more significance when Schwarbs went down. Did you know Ross`s very first major league homer came off a very unlikely source, someone the Cubs faithful are very familiar with, a man who was not even a pitcher by trade, one Mark Grace? {You can`t make up this stuff.} Y`all should read this article if for no other reason than to reach the end when David comments on the three types of men who come to a party at your house. {By the way, this same newspaper featured owner Tom Ricketts very recently, and that also is worth a look. Yesterday `USA Today` did an in-depth piece on Vin Scully which should not be missed. Last night Vin broadcast his 67th and final Opening Night Dodgers` contest. That is beyond remarkable. You`ll never see his like again.
