#Cubs Arrieta makes 1st home start

Here are some notes re: Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta to prep you for Saturday’s game.

*This will be Arrieta’s first start at Wrigley Field in 2016. He has thrown 40 2/3 consecutive scoreless regular season innings at home, the longest regular season scoreless innings streak in a home ballpark since Cal Eldred (41 2/3 IP in 1992).

*With a scoreless outing on Saturday, Arrieta would become the first pitcher in the modern era (since 1900) with six consecutive scoreless regular season home starts.

*In his last outing, Arrieta gave up three earned runs over seven innings in the Cubs’ 7-3 win over the D-backs.

*The Cubs have won each of Arrieta’s last 15 regular season starts, with the right-hander going 13-0 with a 0.75 ERA in those outings.

*In two starts against the Rockies, Arrieta is 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA, and both of those came in 2014. In his last start against Colorado on Aug. 6, 2014, he went just five innings, giving up a career-worst tying nine earned runs and took the loss.

Yesterday`s game is best forgotten. It was an aberration. It`s unlikely you`ll see the Cubs commit four miscues in one game again for the remainder of this marathon season. Have you ever heard Tommy Lasorda comment on a given team`s wins and losses in one season? It`s Tommy`s view that every team, whether it`s an outstanding one or a pathetic one, is going to win one-third of its games and lose one-third of its contests. It`s how a team plays in the other one-third of the season`s games that determines if that teams fails or succeeds. I suggest yesterday`s game belongs in that category of the one-third we were destined to lose. Jake is very likely to place us back in the winning column today, given that he is arguably second only to Clayton Kershaw when ranking the very best starting pitchers in the game.

Aloha jhosk, I agree that it is the exception not the norm. The Giant’s MadBum also suffered from his defense having a hard day in the job. Kudos to Arrieta! And Baez getting 2 hits! Mahalo!
