#Cubs and Lackey face D-Backs

John Lackey will open the Cubs’ weekend series against the D-Backs on Friday at Wrigley Field. Here’s the lineup:

Fowler CF

Heyward RF

Bryant LF

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist 2B

La Stella 3B

Montero C

Baez SS

Lackey P

*Javier Baez is back in the lineup after a stellar day at second base on Thursday. Baez hit his third home run  of the season, and made two nice defensive plays.

*Cubs starting pitchers have a 1.17 ERA in the last seven games, giving up six earned runs over 48 1/3 innings. The Cubs also are 20-7 at Wrigley Field, and the only Major League team with 20 home wins.

*In case you missed it, here are the pitching matchups for the three-game series:

Friday: RHP John Lackey (5-2, 3.16) vs. RHP Archie Bradley (2-0, 6.11)
Saturday: RHP Jason Hammel (6-1, 2.09) vs. LHP Edwin Escobar (0-1, 18.90)
Sunday: RHP Jake Arrieta (9-0, 1.56) vs. LHP Patrick Corbin (2-5, 4.96)

Aloha Folks! The starting pitching is just lights outs! Lackey and Bradley were in a tremendous contest today; I think Rizzo is “waking-up!” I also like how Maddon gives as person a day off but if they come in off the bench like Addison did they contribute! Again kudos to Lackey and the bp as 1 run would have been enough….though tense! Mahalo & Aloha Friday!

Another fun game, no doubt K.g.
Pitchers duel until the bottom of the 8th, then the fun.🙂

Aloha jasper, so true. I give Hammel credit today after giving up the first inning he, he settled down and pitched! He also contributed to his cause at the plate! We have spoke about Richard and his woos; well Strope I think is a part of this. He just does not strike me as taking situations “seriously.” I think Maddon & Bosio have got to have a heart to heart chat with him. Well, I just hope they can pull this one out! Mahalo!

Aloha jasper- Just for fun, let me say I know that this team is doing well! We have discussed here that Richard and Strop are having a difficult period. I was trying to think of a trade with the Brewers that gets back Ramirez (who had a nice outing for the Brewers yesterday) plus a prospect of theirs that I have been following, a LHP from the islands name Kodi Medeiros. I discussed him before here on the Cubs site. He was drafted the same year as Schwarber and is only 20yrs old. He has a lot of potential and I think working with the Cubs organization and Bosio, he could really blossom! Question is what would it take to get him away from the Brewers and could Richard/Strop be added into the mix (pay part of their salaries)? I am sure the Brewers would shoot for the moon, asking for Soler/Baez/Torres/Almora/Contreras but I think you have to stay clear of those names and look at Vogelbach-Villanueva instead. Left-handed pitching is hard to come by and if there is a way to get back Ramirez in the short run plus get a prospect like Medeiros, it might be worth it? Take care now. Mahalo!
