Hendricks was interviewed after today`s game and he gave much credit for his success today to his batterymate, Willson Contreras. Kyle said he went with Willson`s decisions for virtually the entire time he pitched, and rarely shook off a sign. I mention this because jasper has strongly suggested it`s important that all the Cubs` starters develop a rapport with the new young catcher. (Hendricks is already well on that path. Btw, Kyle identifies the catcher as Willie in the interview.) I mentioned elsewhere that Hendricks has the second best ERA in all of MLB (2.17). Kershaw has the very best (1.79). Since Clayton is on the DL currently, and given it`s not a stretch to speculate the Dodger pitcher may not be activated for the remainder of 2016, I wonder if a point may be reached when Kershaw no longer qualifies with total innings pitched for the ERA lead in the NL or MLB.

yes if Kershaw doesn’t pitch for the remainder he will lose his qualified status. But also Hendricks has to keep pitching this well and not blow up….

Thanks for that. Also keep in mind Hendricks must be hearing footsteps, as MadBum`s ERA is 2.20. He lost a pitcher`s duel with the Nats` Roarke Sunday, 1-0. The Nats have several outstanding starters and that will be the Cubs` biggest challenge if indeed the teams meet in the 2016 playoffs, as many expect.

Aloha Petrey, that is good to know. I am so pleased with Hendricks as he has learned so much better how to “use” both sides of the plate to his advantage. I think he will be stable for the rest of the season. jhosk, yes, MadBum pitches a 2-hitter and loses! That was tough. Take care now. Mahalo!

Did La Stella ever report to Iowa?

I`m guessing that`s a no, as he did not appear in either Saturday` or Sunday`s games. There is the likelihood the Cubs could face the Nationals in the playoffs. Did y`all know it`s possible there could one day be Harper brothers on the Washington roster? Bryce`s older brother, Bryan, is a relief pitcher with the Syracuse Chiefs, the AAA affiliate of the Nats in the International League, and he worked in a game Saturday, a contest in which Clint Frazier appeared with the opposing team. Frazier is the principal player the Yankees coveted in the recent trade of Andrew Miller to the Indians. (Some have compared Frazier to Mike Trout at the same stage, but that `s a bridge too far, in my opinion.)
