#Cubs Smith to DL; Cahill stays
Cubs reliever Joe Smith was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a left hamstring strain. With the move, Trevor Cahill, who was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday and was the 26th man for Chicago’s doubleheader, will stay with the big league team.
Smith, acquired from the Angels on Aug. 1 for a Minor League player, has given up three home runs over 3 2/3 innings in six games with the Cubs.
Cahill started the first game of the Cubs’ doubleheader on Tuesday, and went five innings to pick up the win in a 4-0 victory over the Brewers. He had been on the disabled list since July 9 with patellar tendinitis in his right knee.
