#Cubs and Hendricks face Cards

Kyle Hendricks gets the start Monday night for the Cubs in the first of three games against the Cardinals. Hendricks has given up three or fewer earned runs in each of his last 19 starts, dating to May 22. That’s the longest streak by any big league pitcher this season. Chicago’s magic number to clinch the division is now five. Here’s the lineup:

Fowler CF

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist LF

Russell SS

Montero C

Heyward RF

Baez 2B

Hendricks P

I’m surprised that Coghlan isn’t starting. He’s hitting .579 with 4 doubles and 2 home runs against Leake.

Aloha Mat, that is a very good point because every win counts. Plus Coghlan gives you pretty good defense in left. Well, if Baez is wild tonight at the plate, Maddon can always have Zobrist come in to 2nd and put Coghlan in left later in the game. I feel like they do not always give Hendricks the best offensive lineup for his starts, maybe because he is pitching well as opposed to Arrieta. That is only a theory but you know many of Jake’s wins would not have happened without a lot of offense. I hope this lineup can get to Leake early. Take care! Mahalo! PS, was at the last game Lester pitched against Giants on Friday, 9/2. Learned that Steak N Shake is coming out to the SF Bay Area, next month. Was a little sad and happy at the same time.

Well, I hope you get a chance to enjoy your Steak n Shake favorites. In the meantime, I know what I’m hoping for over the next three games, but I’m not going to say it out loud, yet.

Howdy all! Masterful game by Hendricks tonight. He’s definitely in the Cy Young running. Goodnight and take care! PS, love Steak N Shake too, they have the best chili dogs.

I don`t get why Maddon argued vehemently with Cowboy Joe West there in the ninth. My impression was Joe was pissed because Kyle`s no-no just went by the boards, and he, Joe Maddon, targeted the home plate umpire to direct his anger. And when is West going to retire? This guy has been around forever. I must admit, he did call a good game tonight. Hendricks added more evidence to the argument that he should start the second game at Wrigley in the first playoff series versus whatever team is the Wild Card among the Giants, Cardinals and Mets. I think that game will be October 8, but please don`t quote me.

Maddon was not the problem, Joe West was. West told Montero not to go to the mound because he was going to count that as a visit. Everyone knew the Cubs were trying to give Chapman more time to warm up. West just decided to exert his authority, and looked dumb doing so.

Aloha Carrie- thank you for this update. I agree with jhosk that up until that point West was calling a pretty good game. I have read that West likes to “interject” himself into situations and seems to make it about him instead of taking a backseat and letting the game play out. Read that Kerry Wood was not pleased with West’s behavior as well. Hope Hammel can give a quality start tonight and continue this momentum. Mahalo!

Dangit! I have to work in Galesburg after midnight tonight, so I just slept through that while game!

Aloha Folks, I wish Hendricks got the no-no, could hear the Cardinal fans all breathing a sign of relief, then gave Kyle a standing ovation. Huge win. Got to work on scoring runners but thankful for Hendricks tremendous outting! Mahalo!
