Jorge Soler hit his first home run and Kris Bryant had three hits, including two doubles, and a RBI to lead the Mesa Solar Sox to a 7-5 victory over Peoria on Friday in Arizona Fall League action. Soler, sidelined most of this season because of a stress fracture in his left leg, hit a two-run shot with one out in the eighth. Bryant is batting .429, and his two doubles give him six, which leads the AFL. He also is first in RBIs with 14. Cubs pitching prospect Armando Rivero gave up one run on one hit and struck out one in one inning in relief. The Solar Sox — or Soler Sox, if you prefer — play host to Surprise at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa on Saturday.
Cubs prospect Kris Bryant hit a double, walked twice and scored two runs in Mesa’s 9-6 win over Surprise on Monday in Arizona Fall League play. Bryant now is batting .429, tied for the AFL lead with Braves prospect Tommy La Stella. Cuban pitcher Armando Rivero, another Cubs prospect, gave up two runs on four hits over one inning in relief. On Tuesday, the Mesa Solar Sox face the Surprise Saguaros again, this time on the road in Surprise.
Albert Almora was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the Mesa Solar Sox’s 7-4 victory over Scottsdale on Tuesday in Arizona Fall League play. Almora, who hit a two-run double in the third, was batting .571, tops in the AFL. On Wednesday, Mesa faces the Peoria Javelinas in Surprise.

Top prospect Pierce Johnson has been promoted from Class A Kane County to high A Daytona, and the Cougars have added Cuban pitcher Armando Rivero, who had been working out at the Cubs’ complex in Mesa, Ariz. Johnson, the 43rd overall selection in the 2012 Draft, was Kane County’s Opening Night starter. He was 5-5 with a 3.10 ERA in 13 games, striking out 74 over 69 2/3 innings. On Sunday, he gave up four hits over seven scoreless innings. He’s the fourth Kane County player to be promoted to Daytona this season, joining Chadd Krist, Wes Darvill and Yaniel Cabezas. Johnson ranks seventh on MLB.com’s list of top 20 Cubs prospects.
Rivero, signed by the Cubs this past spring, turned 25 in February. In his final season in Cuba in 2010-11, Rivero had a 3.06 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 21 walks over 47 innings.
