7/2 Minor matters – Monday’s games

Monday’s games

Barret Loux gave up one run over five innings and struck out six in Iowa’s 4-2 win over Memphis. Anthony Giansanti drove in two runs in his Iowa debut. Brian Schlitter converted his eighth save of the season.

Matt Szczur had two hits and one RBIs in Tennessee’s 7-2 loss to Montgomery. Austin Kirk took the loss, giving up six runs over 5 2/3 innings. Arismendy Alcantara hit a double, and his 138 total bases are a team high.

Daytona’s doubleheader against Clearwater was postponed because of rain and unplayable field conditions. The games will be played as part of doubleheaders Aug. 13 and Aug. 15.

Albert Almora had two hits in Kane County’s 4-3 loss to Wisconsin. Almora was batting .346 for the season, and posted his 13th multi-hit game.

Jacob Hannemann had two hits and one RBIs in Boise’s 3-2 win over Salem-Keizer. His two-out RBI single in the ninth scored the game-winning run. James Pugliese gave up one run over six innings.

On Monday, Yasiel Balaguert was named Northwest League Player of the Week. He batted .348 with three home runs and nine RBIs.

Kevin Freeman had two RBIs in Mesa’s 10-2 win over the Dodgers.

6/20 Minor matters

Wednesday’s games

Brooks Raley gave up five runs over six innings in Iowa’s 5-4 loss to Nashville in the first game of a doubleheader. Logan Watkins had three hits, including two triples, and Donnie Murphy had two RBIs.

In the second game, Barret Loux gave up one hit over five scoreless innings in Iowa’s 1-0 win. Watkins added two more hits, and was batting .251 for the season. Steve Clevenger was 1-for-2 in the 13th game of his rehab assignment, and batting .370. Clevenger completes his 20-day rehab assignment on Saturday. At that time, he could be optioned to Triple-A Iowa or rejoin the big league team.

Alberto Cabrera gave up one run over six innings in Tennessee’s 7-2 win over Chattanooga. Christian Villanueva and Justin Bour both homered. Cabrera helped himself, hitting a double and driving in two runs.

P.J. Francescon gave up three runs over six innings in Daytona’s 4-3 win over Clearwater. Ben Carhart hit his third home run, and Pin-Chieh Chen had two hits in his first start with Daytona. Francescon is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA in his last three starts.

Kane County had Wednesday off, and returns to action against Quad Cities Thursday.

James Pugliese gave up one run on three hits over five innings in Boise’s 5-1 win over Salem-Keiser. Shawon Dunston Jr. extended his hitting streak to five games, and Jose Dore drove in two runs. Pugliese has given up one run over 10 innings.

5/27 Minor matters

Barret Loux struck out six and gave up one run on three hits over six innings as Iowa beat Oklahoma City, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Edwin Maysonet had two hits, including his fourth home run. Blake Parker converted his seventh save. In the second game, Logan Watkins and Donnie Murphy each homered in a 4-3 win to complete the sweep. Zach Putnam converted his fourth save.

Eric Jokisch struck out six and gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings in Tennessee’s 5-2 win over Huntsville. Matt Szczur and Rubi Silva each had two hits and one RBIs.

Jorge Soler hit his seventh home run but it wasn’t enough as Daytona lost, 5-3, to Lakeland. P.J. Francescon took the loss, giving up four runs over six innings. Zeke DeVoss had three hits.

Gioskar Amaya hit his first home run but Kane County lost, 6-5, to Beloit. Tayler Scott gave up four runs over 5 2/3 innings. Albert Almora had two hits, and now is batting .538 over six games.

5/15 Minor matters

Barret Loux gave up seven runs on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings in Iowa’s 11-1 loss to Reno. Brad Nelson and Brian Bogusevic each had two hits. Ian Stewart was 1-for-3 with a double.

Christian Villanueva hit a solo home run to help Tennessee beat Jackson, 3-2, in 10 innings. Zach Rosscup picked up the win in relief. Matt Szczur collected his sixth straight multi-hit game, going 3-for-5.

Dustin Geiger hit a double for the only extra base hit as Daytona lost, 4-2, to Charlotte. Austin Reed threw two scoreless innings in relief, and now has not given up a run in his last five appearances.

Wilson Contreras went 2-for-2, hitting his fifth home run, in Kane County’s 8-4 loss to Peoria. Ian Dickson gave up two runs on five hits over four innings. Rock Shoulders notched his eighth multi-RBI game, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

4/20 Minor matters

Barret Loux threw five shutout innings in a 5-0 victory over Nashville on Friday. Logan Watkins had two hits and Ian Stewart was 0-for-2 with two walks in his third rehab start.

Arismendy Alcantara had two hits and two RBIs in Tennessee’s 8-1 win over Huntsville. Matt Szczur had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Christian Villanueva had two RBIs, and now has 12 in his last 13 games. A.J. Morris picked up the win in relief.

Dustin Geiger extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a fifth inning single in Daytona’s 8-3 loss to Tampa. Jorge Soler was 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Zach Cates took the loss, giving up six runs on three hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Kane County’s game vs. Quad Cities was postponed because of the weather.

4/14 Minor matters

Barret Loux gave up one run on six hits over five innings in Iowa’s 6-1 win over Albuquerque Saturday. Logan Watkins hit a two-run home run and Brian Bogusevic had two hits and one RBIs. Darwin Barney went 1-for-4 in his first rehab game.

Kyle Hendricks gave up one unearned run on five hits over six innings in Tennessee’s 8-6 win over Chattanooga. Arismendy Alcantara had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Rubi Silva had three hits, including a double and triple.

P.J. Francescon gave up six runs over five innings in Daytona’s 9-4 loss to Tampa. Stephen Bruno had two hits and two RBIs. Javier Baez doubled, tripled and drove in two runs, and was batting .184. Dustin Geiger added a RBI double.

Dan Vogelbach hit his first home run in Kane County’s 7-6 loss to Wisconsin in the first game of a doubleheader. Rock Shoulders had a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to right games. In the second game, Wilson Contreras hit a two-run homer in the 11th for a 3-1 win.
