Brad Snyder hit his 25th homer to help Iowa beat Memphis 4-2 on Friday and take a one-game lead in the Pacific Coast League Northern Division. Snyder’s blast snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh. Luke Sommer picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Carpenter, who gave up two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. Mitch Atkins starts Saturday for the I-Cubs in the second game of this four-game series.
Steve Clevenger had three hits and two RBIs but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee lost 5-4 in 10 innings to Carolina. Brett Jackson had two hits, including a triple, and one stolen base. Trey McNutt started and gave up three runs on eight hits over six innings.
Daytona was eliminated from the playoffs after a 3-2 loss to Lakeland. Brooks Raley gave up one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven, but didn’t get a decision. Junior Lake hit his ninth home run.
Brett Wallach gave up three runs on two hits and three walks over four innings in Peoria’s 4-2 loss to Kane County. Jae-Hoon Ha hit a RBI double for the Chiefs and has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.
Eduardo Figueroa gave up one unearned run on two hits over five innings to get the win in Boise’s 4-3 victory over Yakima. Micah Gibbs had two hits and one RBIs.

Brad Snyder had three hits and two RBIs to lead Iowa to a 8-7 win over Omaha on Sunday. Snyder now has 95 RBIs, most on the team. Jason Dubois also had three hits and two RBIs. Jeff Gray picked up the win in relief, although he gave up three runs on three hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Jeff Stevens converted the save.
Tennessee lost 16-1 to Birmingham but still clinched the Southern League North Division second-half title because Huntsville lost. The Smokies also won the first half title. Russ Canzler hit his 21st homer for Tennessee.
Brooks Raley gave up one run on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings in Daytona’s 6-1 win over Lakeland. DJ LeMahieu had two hits and one RBI.
Brett Wallach gave up four runs on four hits and four walks over two innings in Peoria’s 6-2 loss to Clinton in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Corey Martin picked up the win in relief as Peoria edged Clinton, 2-1. Justin Bour went 4-for-7 in the two games.
Alvaro Ramirez homered in the first inning but it wasn’t enough as Boise lost 5-4 to Spokane. Dustin Harrington had two hits and two RBIs.
Mesa beat the Athletics, 11-4, scoring seven runs in the eighth inning. Brian Shields had two hits and scored two runs.

Iowa manager Ryne Sandberg was ejected for the fourth time this season in Iowa’s 6-4 loss to Nashville on Tuesday. Brad Snyder hit his 21st home run in the fifth and finished with two RBIs. Bobby Scales and Welington Castillo each drove in a run.
* Ty’Relle Harris threw five shutout innings and was backed by a 13-hit attack as Tennessee beat West Tenn, 9-6, on Tuesday. Harris struck out five for his first win. Marwin Gonzalez drove in three runs and Steve Clevenger had two hits and was named Southern League offensive player of the week for Aug. 16-22.

* Brooks Raley threw six shutout innings in Daytona’s 8-2 win over Clearwater on Wednesday. Kyler Burke capped an eight-run third inning with a grand slam, his seventh homer. Oswaldo Martinez picked up the save, throwing three innings.
* Brett Wallach, acquired from the Dodgers in the Ted Lilly-Ryan Theriot deal, gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings in Peoria’s 10-5 loss to Clinton. Matt Cerda hit a three-run homer in the ninth.
* Matt Loosen gave up two runs on three hits over four innings and struck out six in Boise’s 5-1 loss to Vancouver. Micah Gibbs and Elliot Soto each had two hits.

Iowa had a day off Thursday before beginning a four-game series at Fresno and Sacramento on Friday.
Chris Carpenter gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings in Tennessee’s 5-2 loss to Chattanooga. Brandon Guyer hit two home runs for the Smokies to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
Trey McNutt gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits over three innings in Daytona’s 6-3 win over Tampa. Rebel Ridling hit his 12th homer. Michael Brenly had three hits and DJ LeMahieu extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Alex Maestri picked up the win in relief, pitching three innings.

Alvaro Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 15 games with two hits in Boise’s 6-3 win over Tri-City. Matthew Loosen picked up the win, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Dallas Beeler gave up two runs on five hits over three innings in Mesa’s 12-inning, 7-6 win over the Rangers.

Darwin Barney had three hits and two RBIs to help Iowa beat Tacoma, 7-3. With the win, the Iowa Cubs expanded their lead in the Northern Division to 4 1/2 games. Austin Bibens-Dirkx gave up three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out five. He’s 4-0 with a 2.52 ERA. Micah Hoffpauir extended his hitting streak to 16 games and is batting .379 in that stretch.
Chris Carpenter threw six shutout innings in Tennessee’s 9-2 win over Huntsville. He struck out eight and gave up three hits, walking two. Tony Campana had two hits and one RBI and Tony Thomas and Carpenter each drove in two runs.
Mark Reed hit his second homer but it wasn’t enough as Jupiter rallied to beat Daytona, 4-2. DJ LeMahieu extended his hitting streak to 10 games with two hits and was batting .419 in that stretch. Brooks Raley did not get a decision, but gave up one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Newly acquired Brett Wallach gave up seven runs — four earned — on three hits and four walks over 3 1/3 innings in Peoria’s 9-8 loss to Quad Cities. Wallach was one of two Minor League pitchers the Cubs acquired from the Dodgers in the Ted Lilly-Ryan Theriot-Blake DeWitt deal. Jae-Hoon Ha and Mario Mercedes each had two hits and two RBIs.
Boise forfeited its game against Everett. The game was delayed 80 minutes at the beginning and the Hawks were trailing 2-0 after one inning. Boise manager Jody Davis met with home plate umpire Matt Mullins and after a long discussion, pulled his players off the field. Professional baseball rules declare a 9-0 win for the winner in the event of a forfeit.
Dallas Beeler gave up one run on three hits over three innings in Mesa’s 2-1 loss to the Brewers. Pin-Chieh Chen had two hits and Tzu-An Wang threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Newly acquired Brett Wallach took the loss in Peoria’s 7-5 loss to Beloit Monday night. Wallach, acquired from the Dodgers in the Ted Lilly/Ryan Theriot/Blake DeWitt deal, didn’t get much help as the Chiefs committed five errors, three while he was in the game. Wallach gave up five runs, three earned, on eight hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx gave up three runs on three hits over five innings in Iowa’s 5-3 win over Oklahoma City. Jason Dubois and Welington Castillo both had two hits and both homered. Bibens-Dirkx now is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA. Congrats to Bryan LaHair who was named PCL offensive player of the week for July 26-Aug. 1. He hit .455 in that stretch with four homers and 14 RBIs.

But the Cubs’ winning streak was snapped at 14 games when they lost the nightcap, 4-3. Michael Brenly did hit his fifth homer of the season in the second game. Congrats to Rebel Ridling, named FSL offensive player of the week for July 26-Aug. 1. He hit .524 in that stretch with 10 RBIs.

Jay Jackson gae up four runs on six hits over six innings and struck out eight in Iowa’s 9-5 win over Oklahoma City. Brad Snyder hit two home runs, and now has 17 for the season. He finished with five RBIs. His 79 RBIs lead the team. Matt Camp had three hits.
Brandon Guyer and Matt Spencer each homered in Tennessee’s 6-4 win over West Tenn. Kyle Smit, whom the Cubs acquired Saturday from the Dodgers in the Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, Blake DeWitt deal, picked up the win, pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Marcos Mateo got the save and was promoted to Triple-A Iowa.
Brett Wallach, the other Minor League pitcher whom the Cubs acquired in the deal, was scheduled to start Monday for Class A Peoria. The Chiefs scored nine runs in the first to beat Beloit, 10-7. Nick Struck earned the win in relief, throwing 4 1/3 innings.
Austin Kirk gave up one run on four hits over four innings and struck out seven in Boise’s 6-5 win over Vancouver. John Gaub gave up four runs (three earned) on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning for Mesa in a 9-7 loss to the Athletics.
