Marshall law

Sean Marshall gave up one run in the first inning of his first spring start on Feb. 26 against Milwaukee, and has not given up another in 12 1/3 innings. On Friday, he gave up one run, but it was unearned, over 4 1/3 innings. The lefty appears to have locked up the fifth starter spot in the Cubs rotation.

Meanwhile, new Cubs infielder Esteban German made his debut at third base on Friday, subbing for Aramis Ramirez. German was released by the Royals on March 9 and signed a Minor League contract with the Cubs on Friday.

Corey Koskie was undergoing his physical on Friday, and once given the go-ahead, he’ll also be thrown into the mix. Koskie has not played in the big leagues since 2006 when he suffered a concussion.
