Hainley Statia made a leaping catch at the wall in left to rob what would’ve been a two-run homer by Greg Rohan in the ninth inning and preserve Nashville’s 2-1 win over Triple-A Iowa in the season finale on Monday.
The Sounds scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning against Cubs’ starter Kyle Hendricks. With one out and a man on first, Eugenio Velez hit a one-hopper back to Hendricks. The Cubs got a force out at second, but the ball slipped out of the hands of Edwin Maysonet as he went to throw to first, allowing Velez to reach on a fielders’ choice. Hunter Morris followed with a home run to left.
Hendricks (3-1) worked through six innings and recorded his fifth quality start in six games with Iowa.
Sounds starter Aaron Laffey gave up four hits, and induced two double play balls to keep the Cubs scoreless through three. Tim Dillard followed in relief and gave up one hit, a solo home run by TIm Torres, in the fifth.
Rohan, who hit the game-winning homer for the Cubs in the 10th inning Sunday, hit a towering drive to left. Statia got back to the wall, timed his leap, and caught the ball over the top of the outfield wall for the second out. Luis Flores then grounded out to end the game.
The Cubs finished in third place in the Pacific Coast League’s American Northern Division, four games behind the Omaha Storm Chasers, who clinched the division title Monday with a win over Round Rock and Memphis’ loss at Oklahoma City.
Greg Rohan and Dave Sappelt each homered in Iowa’s 4-3 loss to Nashville on Monday night. Seth McClung took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. Esmailin Caridad, Jaye Chapman and Marcus Hatley each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Jae-Hoon Ha hit a three-run homer in the first to back Dae-Eun Rhee and lift Tennessee to a 5-3 win over Mobile. Rhee gave up one earned run over five innings, striking out six. Junior Lake and Logan Watkins each had two hits.
Daytona’s game against Clearwater was postponed because of the weather.
Starling Peralta gave up two runs over six innings inpeoria’s 7-3 win over Wisconsin. Jacob Rogers hit his second home run in as many days and Jorge Soler scored two runs, hit a double and stole a base. It was Peralta’s eighth quality start.
Boise, which has secured a post-season spot, opens its final regular season home stand on Tuesday against Everett.
Yasiel Balaguert hit a three-run home run in the second inning to help Mesa beat the Giants, 3-1.

Greg Rohan had two hits and one RBIs in Iowa’s 11-3 loss to Memphis on Monday night. The Iowa pitching staff gave up a season-high 11 walks in the game.
Junior Lake had two hits and two RBIs in Tennessee’s 5-1 victory over Chattanooga. Michael Brenly drove in two runs. Brian Schlitter picked up the win in relief, striking out three over two innings.
Daytona had Monday off, and returns to action Tuesday against Clearwater.
Zeke DeVoss and Tim Saunders eaach had two hits in Peoria’s 8-1 loss to Wisconsin. Joe Zeller took the loss, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits over six innings.
Dan Vogelbach and Marco Hernandez each homered in Boise’s 8-7 loss to Yakima. Ian Dickson did not get a decision, despite giving up three hits over five innings. Vogelbach finished with three hits.
Carlos Penalver had two hits and a stolen base in Mesa’s 5-1 loss to the Padres. Paul Blackburn threw four shutout innings.

Greg Rohan had two hits and one RBIs in Iowa’s 2-1 loss Monday night to Reno. Blake Parker struck out one in one inning of relief in his first rehab appearance, and first game action since June 1. He’s been on the DL with a stress reaction in his right elbow. Michael Bowden threw two scoreless innings in relief.
Lendy Castillo gave up one run on one hit and one walk over two innings in Tennessee’s 7-6 loss to Jackson. Junior Lake hit a two-run home run in the ninth, and Justin Bour hit his 15th home run. Bour had two hits and three RBIs.
Daytona had Monday off, and returns to action Tuesday against Lakeland.
Zach Cates gave up one run on five hits over five innings in Peoria’s 8-6 loss to Clinton. Tim Saunders had three RBIs and Wes Darvill had two hits and one RBIs.
Stephen Bruno, Carlos Escobar and Gioskar Amaya each homered in Boise’s 11-7 win over Everett. Amaya finished with three hits and scored two runs.
Ben Carhart extended his hitting streak to 10 games in Mesa’s 10-8 loss to the Brewers.
