The Cubs play their final home game of the season on Wednesday against the Pirates at Wrigley Field. Here is the lineup:
The Cubs placed right-handed pitcher Matt Guerrier and outfielder Thomas Neal on the disabled list Thursday, and added catcher J.C. Boscan and right-handed reliever Eduardo Sanchez to the roster from Triple-A Iowa. Guerrier was experiencing discomfort in his right elbow, and returned to Chicago on Thursday to be examined. Neal, claimed Monday off waivers from the Yankees, suffered a dislocated right shoulder making a throw Wednesday. Both injuries came in the seventh, when catcher Dioner Navarro injured his right ankle in a collision at home plate. Navarro, who had to be carted off the field, amazingly is not going on the DL. He has a right ankle contusion.
Boscan was batting .253 in 62 games at Iowa. He has not played since Sunday. Boscan, 33, has played in the Minors since 1997, and didn’t get called up to the big leagues until 2010, when he appeared in one game for the Braves. He’s been in 11 games total in the Majors from 2010-12, all with the Braves. Sanchez, claimed off waivers from the Cardinals on May 21, was with the Cubs earlier this month and appeared in two games before he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. He had yet to pitch for the Minor League team since his return.
With Guerrier and Neal added to the disabled list, the Cubs now have 10 players on the DL: Guerrier, Neal, Brian Bogusevic, Luis Valbuena, Scott Baker, Rafael Dolis, Kyuji Fujikawa, Zach Putnam, Ryan Sweeney and Arodys Vizcaino. Only Bogusevic and Valbuena were currently on the 15-day DL.
