9/1 Minor matters

Saturday’s games

Dave Sappelt had two hits and a stolen base and Jae-Hoon Ha had two hits, including a double, and two stolen bases in Iowa’s 7-2 loss to Nashville. Yoanner Negrin gave up two runs over 1 2/3 innings.

Nick Struck gave up three runs over five innings in Tennessee’s 4-3 win over Chattanooga. Javier Baez posted his 14th multi-hit game in August, hitting a two-run homer in the first. Baez finished the month batting .357 with 11 doubles, eight homers and 30 RBIs. Christian Villanueva also hit a first inning home run, a solo shot.

Daytona dropped a 5-1 loss to Brevard County. Wes Darvill had three hits, including a double, and one RBIs.

James Pugliese gave up five runs over three innings in Kane County’s 9-0 loss to Peoria. Ryan Sweeney was 1 for 4 and Luis Valbuena 1 for 3 with a walk in their rehab outings.

Hillsboro’s Kyle Schepel threw a nine inning no-hitter to beat Boise, 5-0. Dillon Maples took the loss, giving up two earned runs over five innings. Yasiel Balaguert was the only Boise player to draw a walk.

7/17 Minor matters

Tuesday’s game

James Pugliese gave up two hits over six scoreless innings in Boise’s 3-0 win over Hillsboro on Tuesday. Troy Masek threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first pro win. Carlos Penalver hit a double and drove in one run.

* Pitcher Juan Paniagua has joined the Kane County Cougars, and was scheduled to start Wednesday against Great Lakes. In other roster moves, pitcher Tayler Scott has been placed on the seven-day disabled list and pitcher Jose Arias, who was on the DL, has been transferred to Mesa, Ariz. A non-drafted free agent in 2012, Paniagua pitched in two games at Mesa (Rookie) last season, going 1-0 and allowing a run in 3 2/3 innings.

6/20 Minor matters

Wednesday’s games

Brooks Raley gave up five runs over six innings in Iowa’s 5-4 loss to Nashville in the first game of a doubleheader. Logan Watkins had three hits, including two triples, and Donnie Murphy had two RBIs.

In the second game, Barret Loux gave up one hit over five scoreless innings in Iowa’s 1-0 win. Watkins added two more hits, and was batting .251 for the season. Steve Clevenger was 1-for-2 in the 13th game of his rehab assignment, and batting .370. Clevenger completes his 20-day rehab assignment on Saturday. At that time, he could be optioned to Triple-A Iowa or rejoin the big league team.

Alberto Cabrera gave up one run over six innings in Tennessee’s 7-2 win over Chattanooga. Christian Villanueva and Justin Bour both homered. Cabrera helped himself, hitting a double and driving in two runs.

P.J. Francescon gave up three runs over six innings in Daytona’s 4-3 win over Clearwater. Ben Carhart hit his third home run, and Pin-Chieh Chen had two hits in his first start with Daytona. Francescon is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA in his last three starts.

Kane County had Wednesday off, and returns to action against Quad Cities Thursday.

James Pugliese gave up one run on three hits over five innings in Boise’s 5-1 win over Salem-Keiser. Shawon Dunston Jr. extended his hitting streak to five games, and Jose Dore drove in two runs. Pugliese has given up one run over 10 innings.

6/15 Minor matters

Iowa’s game vs. Omaha was suspended because of rain. The teams will resume action Saturday, tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Steve Clevenger was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs before the rain.

Jonathan Mota had three hits and one RBIs in Tennessee’s 4-3 loss to Mississippi. Austin Kirk gave up three runs over five innings. Ronald Torreyes had three hits, including a double, and one RBIs and a stolen base.

Daytona is off this weekend for the All-Star break, and will return to action Monday at Clearwater.

Albert Almora extended his hitting streak to 12 games but it wasn’t enough as Kane County lost, 5-1, to Wisconsin. Wilson Contreras had two hits. Shawn Camp threw two scoreless innings in his second rehab outing, striking out three of the eight batters he faced.

James Pugliese threw five shutout innings as Boise opened the season with a 7-0 victory over Eugene. Shawon Dunston Jr. went 4-for-6 with a double, Jacob Rogers hit his first home run and Daniel Lockhart had two hits and one RBIs.
