Cubs pitcher Casey Coleman picked up his first Major League win over the Washington Nationals on Monday. There’s a Washington link to his father and grandfather, too.
Casey’s father, Joe, also won his first Major League game in Washington, DC. Pitching for the Senators, Joe Coleman tossed a four-hitter in a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Athletics on Sept. 28, 1965, in what was then called DC Stadium (it was renamed RFK Stadium in 1969). Making his Major League debut, Coleman fanned three and walked four.
Casey’s grandfather Joe Coleman made his ML debut Sept. 19, 1942, for the Philadelphia Athletics. Coincidentally, his first game was against the Washington Senators. Grandfather Joe entered the second game of a doubleheader in relief in the second inning, pitched six innings, gave up two runs on eight hits and took the loss in an 11-9 game.
