7/6 Minor League report

Brooks Raley gave up one earned run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 3-0 loss to Omaha on Thursday. Josh Vitters singled, and now has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games. Raley did notch his fourth quality start, striking out four.

Tennessee and Jacksonville did not play because of rain Thursday.

Kyler Burke gave up two earned runs on seven hits over five innings in Daytona’s 5-2 loss to Dunedin. John Andreoli had three hits and stole a base, his 29th.

Zach Cates threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Peoria’s 2-1 win over Burlington. Cates struck out five. Dustin Geiger hit his sixth homer, a solo shot. Javier Baez had a hit and a stolen base. He was named to Baseball America’s Midseason top 50 prospects list.

Bijan Rademacher hit his first home run, one of two hits, in Boise’s 7-6 win over Tri-City. Marco Hernandez had two hits and two RBIs.

Justin Berg gave up six runs on four hits and one walk in one inning in a 12-11 win over the Angels. Tim Saunders was 5-for-6, scored four runs and drove in three.

7/1 Minor League report

Logan Watkins hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth to help Tennessee beat Birmingham, 3-2, on Saturday. Michael Burgess also homered for the Smokies. Kevin Rhoderick picked up the win in relief. Jae-Hoon Ha, who will play in the All-Star Futures game, had two hits.

Kyler Burke gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits over four innings in Daytona’s 5-2 loss to Dunedin. John Andreoli had two hits.

Zach Cates gave up four earned runs on six hits over four innings and struck out five in Peoria’s 9-5 loss to Wisconsin. Paul Hoilman hit a double, and now has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.

Jose Arias gave up five runs on nine hits over five innings in Boise’s 12-6 win over Spokane. Stephen Bruno had two hits and one RBIs and Jeimer Candelario had three hits and two RBIs.

Justin Berg, making a comeback from Tommy John surgery, threw two scoreless innings in Mesa’s 12-8 win over the Royals. Carlos Penalver had three hits and three RBIs.

6/15 Minor League report

Blake Lalli hit his fifth home run but it wasn’t enough as Iowa lost, 10-8, to Albuquerque on Thursday. Brooks Raley gave up eight runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. Brett Jackson had three hits and two RBIs, and was batting .267. Anthony Rizzo did not play, still nursing a bruised knee.

Nick Struck gave up four hits over 5 2/3 innings in Tennessee’s 3-2 win over Birmingham. Matt Cerda had three hits, including his second home run. Justin Bour had two hits and two RBIs.

Daytona lost 7-3 to Brevard County in the first game of a doubleheader. Robert Whitenack gave up three runs on four hits over three innings. In the second game, Daytona lost, 2-1. The game was called after eight innings because of unplayable field conditions. P.J. Francescon threw five shutout innings and did not get a decision. Micah Gibbs hit his fourth homer.

Kyler Burke gave up three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in Peoria’s 5-3 loss to Beloit. Javier Baez hit his second homer in as many days, and was batting .310 this year.

6/10 Minor League report

Brooks Raley threw seven shutout innings, striking out six, to help Iowa blank Nashville 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Matt Tolbert hit a first-inning home run, and finished with two hits. Dave Sappelt also had two hits. The Iowa Cubs lost the second game, 3-2. Esmailin Caridad gave up two runs on two hits over four innings. Ty Wright had two hits, and now is batting .405 this month.

Michael Brenly hit a tie-breaking two-run double in the eighth to lift Tennessee to a 6-4 win over Mississippi. Rebel Ridling hit his seventh homer, a two-run shot in the third.

Frank Del Valle gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks over five innings in Daytona’s 7-0 loss to Tampa. Daytona was out-hit 13-3 in the game.

Kyler Burke threw seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine, in Peoria’s 4-1 win over Kane County. Burke had a perfect game through five innings before giving up a single in the sixth. The former outfielder is now 2-2 with a 2.13 ERA. Anthony Giansanti had three hits.

6/4 All-Star Chiefs

The Class A Peoria Chiefs have placed four players on the Midwest League All-Star team. They include first baseman Paul Hoilman, catcher Rafael Lopez, second baseman Zeke DeVoss and pitcher Kyler Burke. Hoilman and Lopez are both starters. Burke, a recent convert to pitching, also was named to the ’09 All-Star team as an outfielder.

6/4 Minor League report

Brooks Raley struck out eight and gave up five runs on nine hits over five innings in Iowa’s 6-5 loss to Oklahoma City. Ty Wright had two hits and one RBIs and Anthony Rizzo reached base twice and now is batting .356.

Nick Struck gave up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5 2/3 innings in Tennessee’s 3-2 loss to Montgomery. Casey Harman struck out four in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

P.J. Francescon gave up four runs on five hits over five innings in Daytona’s 4-0 loss to Fort Myers. The Daytona Cubs managed one hit, a single by Greg Rohan.

Kyler Burke gave up five runs — two earned — on five hits over five innings in Peoria’s 6-5, 10-inning loss to Kane County. Javier Baez hit his second home run, a two-run, game-tying shot in the eighth. Taiwan Easterling and Wes Darvill each had two hits.

5/30 Minor League report

Josh Vitters hit his seventh homer to help Iowa win its fifth straight, beating Omaha 5-4 on Tuesday. Vitters is batting .281 this season. Chris Rusin started and gave up four runs on seven hits over six innings. Jeff Beliveau, just activated from the disabled list, picked up the win in relief.

Nick Struck threw six shutout innings in Tennessee’s 3-2 win over Huntsville. Struck struck out nine. Junior Lake had two hits and scored two runs.

Rob Whitenack gave up three earned runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings in Daytona’s 4-1 loss to Brevard County in the first game of a doubleheader. Richard Jones had two hits and scored a run.

In the second game, P.J. Francescon gave up five runs on eight hits over six innings in a 5-2 loss. Greg Rohan hit his ninth home run.

Kyler Burke gaveup two runs, one earned, on one hit and five walks over five innings in Peoria’s 4-3 win over Wisconsin in 14 innings. Ryan Cuneo had two hits, including his fourth home run.

5/25 Minor League report

Chris Rusin gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits over four innings in Iowa’s 7-2 loss Thursday to Tacoma. Luis Valbuena and Brett Jackson each had two hits. Jackson now is batting .235.

Dallas Beeler gave up three runs on five hits and five walks over six innings in Tennessee’s 3-2 loss to Mobile. Jim Adduci hit his fourth home run and Junior Lake had two hits.

Greg Rohan and Micah Gibbs each homered but it wasn’t enough as Daytona lost, 5-2, to St. Lucie. Ryan Searle gave up three runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. Rohan’s homer was his eighth and one of three hits.

Kyler Burke gave up one unearned run on two hits over six innings for his first win of the season in Peoria’s 4-3 win over Clinton. Oliver Zapata had three hits and two RBIs.

5/15 Minor League report

Anthony Rizzo hit his 12th home run and Blake Lalli hit his third to back Rodrigo Lopez and lift Iowa to a 3-1 victory Monday over Sacramento. Lopez gave up three hits over five innings. On Monday, Chris Rusin was named PCL Pitcher of the Week. Last week, he was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA, giving up one earned run over 14 innings, while striking out 12.

Trey McNutt gave up two runs on three hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 15-4 win over Jackson in the first game of a doubleheader. Logan Watkins and Junior Lake each homered. Watkins had four RBIs. In the second game, Dallas Beeler took the loss in a 3-1 decision. he gave up three runs on seven hits. Elliot Soto had two hits and the Smokies’ only RBI.

Austin Kirk gave up one run on six hits over seven innings in Daytona’s 2-1 win over Brevard County. Nelson Perez had two hits and two RBIs.

Kyler Burke gave up one run on four hits over six innings in Peoria’s 2-1 win over Burlington. Anthony Giansanti had two hits. Austin Reed picked up the win in relief.

4/10 Minor League report

Anthony Rizzo hit two home runs and Travis Wood helped himself with a homer as Iowa beat Albuquerque, 10-6, on Monday. Rizzo is 9-for-19 this season. Adrian Cardenas and Josh Vitters each had two hits. Wood gave up three runs on four hits over six innings and struck out six.

Brooks Raley gave up two runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in Tennessee’s 3-2 win over Chattanooga. Jae-Hoon Ha and Rebel Ridling each had two hits. Ha also threw out a runner at home.

Greg Rohan hit a homer and drove in four runs in Daytona’s 8-7 loss to Dunedin. Daytona committed five errors in the game and trailed 6-0 after two innings. Zach Cates gave up six runs on seven hits in one plus innings.

Quad Cities scored five runs in the ninth to beat Peoria, 8-3. Ben Wells started and gave up one earned run on seven hits over four innings. Rafael Lopez had three hits and Kyler Burke gave up two hits over four innings in relief.
