8/3 Iowa Cubs Friday update

The Iowa Cubs lost 4-1 Friday night, and lost another pitcher. Rodrigo Lopez was placed on the DL with a shoulder problem, and Ryan Rowland-Smith called up to make a spot start. Rowland-Smith delivered a quality start, giving up one run on two hits and striking out six over six innings, but it wasn’t enough. Jaye Chapman, acquired in the Braves’ deal, took the loss, giving up three runs in one inning.

* Blake Parker, on the disabled list with a right elbow stress reaction, has joined Iowa to begin his rehab assignment.

7/30 Minor League report

Rodrigo Lopez gave up one earned run over five innings in Iowa’s 6-3, 10-inning loss Sunday to New Orleans. Rob Brantley hit a walkoff three-run homer for the win. Welington Castillo forced extra innings with a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh.

Tennessee had Sunday off, and returns to action Monday against Pensacola with a doubleheader.

Matt Loosen improved to 10-3 with a victory in Daytona’s 12-7 win over Bradenton. Loosen gave up four earned runs over five innings and now has a 3.03 ERA. Rafael Lopez hit his second homer, Roni Torreyes had three hits and two RBIs and Elieser Bonne had three hits and one RBIs.

Dustin Geiger hit his 11th home run in Peoria’s 10-6 victory over Beloit. Geiger drove in four runs, also hitting a double. Pin-Chieh Chen was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Javier Baez drove in two runs.

Ian Dickson threw five shutout innings in Boise’s 1-0 win over Tri-City. Dickson struck out four. Gioskar Amaya hit a solo home run, his fifth. Rock Shoulders had two hits. Dickson has not given up a run in his last two starts.

Dillon Maples made his first start in Mesa’s 7-3 loss to the Reds. Jorge Soler hit a double and scored two runs and Trevor Gretzky had his second two-hit game. Gretzky also stole a base.

7/5 Minor League report

Rodrigo Lopez gave up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits over 4 1/3 innings in Iowa’s 11-2 loss on Wednesday to Omaha. Brett Jackson drove in both Iowa runs, and was 2-for-4 (.261) with two stolen bases. Josh Vitters also got a hit and has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games.

Greg Rohan hit his first home run with Tennessee, a two-run shot, in Tennessee’s 4-3 loss to Jacksonville. Dallas Beeler gave up four runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. Justin Bour had two hits.

Robert Whitenack gave up five runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings in Daytona’s 5-2 loss to Dunedin. Rubi Silva, Rebel Ridling, ElieserBonne and Roni Torreyes each had two hits.

Michael Jensen gave up two runs on six hits over five innings and struck out five in Peoria’s 8-2 win over Burlington. Dustin Geiger hit two home runs and drove in three runs and Oliver Zapata hit his fourth homer of the year. Taiwan Easterling had two doubles, one RBIs and scored two runs.

Roderick Shoulders had three hits and two RBIs in Boise’s 5-3 loss to Tri-City. Chad Krist had three hits and scored two runs. Willengton Cruz took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks over four innings.

6/30 Minor League report

Rodrigo Lopez threw six shutout innings in Iowa’s 7-0 win over Oklahoma City. Josh Vitters hit his 13th home run and drove in three runs, Brett Jackson had two hits and stole a base.

Dallas Beeler gave up two runs on six hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 10-8 win over Birmingham. Justin Bour hit his seventh home run and Frank Batista converted his 13th save.

Roni Torreyes had three hits, including his fourth home run, in Daytona’s 11-10 loss to Dunedin. Matt Szczur had two hits and scored three runs, and Greg Rohan drove in a run to raise his league-leading total to 65.

Anthony Giansanti and Javier Baez each had two hits in Peoria’s 8-7 loss to Wisconsin.

Willengton Cruz gave up one run on three hits over five innings in Boise’s 4-1 loss to Spokane. Stephen Bruno had two hits.

6/19 Minor League report

Iowa had Monday off, and opens a eight-game series against Round Rock in Texas on Tuesday. Rodrigo Lopez will start.

Tennessee is taking a breather at the All-Star break. Smokies first baseman Justin Bour will take part in the Home Run Derby Tuesday.

Rob Whitenack gave up four runs on five hits over three innings in Daytona’s 6-3 loss to Tampa. John Andreoli had two hits and a stolen base.

Peoria is in the middle of a four-day All-Star break, which takes place Tuesday in Geneva, IL.

Ian Dickson gave up three runs — two earned — on six hits over 4 1/3 innings in his first pro start for Boise and did not get a decision in the Hawks’ 6-4, 11th inning win over Salem-Keizer. Dong-Yub Kim hit his first homer and Justin Marra had three hits in his Boise debut.

6/14 Minor League report

Blake Lalli hit a game-tying homer in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as Omaha beat Iowa, 5-2, on Wednesday. Rodrigo Lopez took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings. Geovany Soto was 1-for-2, catching five innings in his third rehab appearance.

Dae-Eun Rhee gave up three runs on eight hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 6-3 win over Birmingham. Jim Adduci hit his fifth home run and Justin Bour had two hits, including a double. Frank Batista notched his ninth save, throwing two innings.

Daytona’s game against Brevard County was suspended after the third inning, and was to be resumed Thursday as part of a doubleheader.

Jose Rosario gave up one run on three hits over 6 1/3 innings in Peoria’s 7-1 win over Beloit. Javier Baez and Dustin Geiger each had two hits, and each homered for the Chiefs. Baez, the Cubs’ No. 1 Draft pick one year ago, was batting .315.

5/26 Minor League report

Luis Valbuena hit a solo homer in the ninth to lift the Iowa Cubs to a 2-1 victory Friday night over Memphis. Rodrigo Lopez started the game but was pulled after throwing one pitch because of tightness in his groin, which he felt warming up. Jay Jackson stepped in, and threw five innings of one-run, three-hit relief. He walked two and struck out five. Scott Maine earned the win in relief.

Eric Jokisch gave up two runs on one hit and one walk over five innings in Tennessee’s 4-3 win over Mobile. Jae-Hoon Ha and Luis Flores each hit home runs. Jim Adduci had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base.

Austin Kirk gave up seven hits over eight scoreless innings but did not get a decision in Daytona’s 2-1 loss to Clearwater. Micah Gibbs, Rubi Silva and Dustin Harrington each had two hits.

Starling Peralta gave up one run on five hits over four innings in Peoria’s 3-1 win over Clinton. Zeke DeVoss had two hits, including a double, and Luis Liria converted his first save, pitching three innings in relief.

5/21 Minor League report

Rodrigo Lopez gave up one hit over six innings and struck out five in Iowa’s 2-1 loss to Salt Lake. Brett Jackson hit a double and Jeff Beliveau struck out three over two perfect innings.

Trey McNutt gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 6-3 win over Mississippi. Rebel Ridling hit two home runs and Jim Adduci hit his third. Ridling finished with three RBIs.

Austin Kirk gave up six runs on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings in Daytona’s 8-4 loss to Palm Beach. Nelson Perez had two hits, including a double.

Gerardo Concepcion gave up four runs on six hits and three walks over five innings in Peoria’s 9-6 win over Cedar Rapids. Concepcion struck out two. Paul Hoilman had two hits and two RBIs and Taylor Davis had three hits.

4/27 Minor League report

Frankie De La Cruz gave up one run on four hits over five innings in Iowa’s 7-1 win over Nashville on Thursday. Anthony Rizzo had two hits and two RBIs to raise his season total to 21. Adrian Cardenas had two hits and four RBIs. The Iowa Cubs announced they have activated Rodrigo Lopez, 36. He was designated for assignment on Monday and accepted the assignment to Iowa after clearing waviers.

Nick Struck gave up seven runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in Tennessee’s 7-1 loss to Jackson. Justin Bour hit a solo homer. On Wednesday, Jim Adduci had three hits and scored a run in Tennessee’s 5-1 loss to Jackson.

Daytona lost 5-3 in 10 innings to Clearwater on Thursday. Austin Kirk gave up one earned run on six hits over six innings and struck out six. Nelson Perez hit a solo homer and Matt Szczur hit a triple, drove in a run, scored a run and stole his 11th base. Frank Del Valle gave up four runs on five hits over six innings in Daytona’s 6-4 win over Clearwater on Wednesday. Greg Rohan had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.

Wes Darvill hit his first homer in Peoria’s 7-6, 11-inning loss to Lake County. Paul Hoilman extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single. Darvill now has a 10-game hitting streak. In Peoria on Wednesday, Cuban pitcher Gerardo Concepcion gave up five runs on eight hits over five innings in the Chiefs 6-3 loss to Lake County. It was Concepcion’s first pro start. He struck out two and walked one. Zeke DeVoss had two hits, including a ninth inning home run.
