3/1 "We Believe" DVD available

Remember the documentary on the Cubs and their fans called “We Believe” that was filmed during the 2008 season? Movie director John Scheinfeld has inked a DVD distribution deal for the film with New York-based distributor Virgil Films & Entertainment. It’ll be available April 13, the day after the Cubs’ regular season home opener.

The documentary includes interviews with Kerry Wood, Geovany Soto, Mark DeRosa, Ryan Dempster, Lou Piniella and Ryan Theriot. There is a feature on Steve Goodman, who wrote “Go Cubs Go.” If you love the Cubs and the city of Chicago, it’s a nice keepsake.

Gary Sinise narrated “We Believe” with appearances by Billy Corgan, Bob Costas, Dennis Franz, Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Buddy Guy, Hugh Hefner, Bonnie Hunt, Joe Mantegna, George Will, Bud Selig and Francis Cardinal George, archbishop of Chicago. 9/8 "We Believe" distribution delayed

Hold the popcorn. Promoters of the theatrical documentary on the Cubs, titled “We Believe,” now say the movie will not be shown until spring 2010. The movie was to be shown in Chicago on Sept. 20, and then the DVD made available but those plans have been delayed. “We Believe” was filmed during the 2008 season and features interviews with several Cubs players, manager Lou Piniella and celebrities, such as Hugh Hefner and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins.

8/31 "We Believe" the movie

“We Believe,” the documentary film that explores the love affair between the city of Chicago and the Cubs will run in select theaters in September prior to the DVD release slated for Sept. 22. In addition to the 104-minute feature length film, the DVD will be loaded with bonus extras including interviews and deleted scenes.

Cubs fans will love this movie. It followed the 2008 team for nine months, and features interviews with players, manager Lou Piniella, coaches, celebrity Chicagoans as well as people like Fred Washington who run the manual scoreboard at Wrigley Field. One of the best segments is on Steve Goodman, who wrote the song, “Go Cubs Go.”

Joe Amodei, president of Virgil Films & Entertainment, which will handle the distribution, called the film a “love letter not only to the city itself but the people that live there and in particular the always hopeful Cubs fans.”

Screenings will be held at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., on Sept. 17; at the Music Box Theater in Chicago on Sept. 20; and at Kerasotes theaters on Webster in Chicago and Kerasotes in suburban Skokie on Sept. 21.

"We Believe" update

The documentary on the Cubs titled “We Believe” should be in Chicago theaters by the end of the summer. Those connected to the movie say they’re still weighing distribution offers. A DVD was expected to be available in September, and will include a bonus 106 minutes of footage.

We Believe in Freeport

The documentary “We Believe” will be shown June 28 at the Classic Cinema’s Lindo Theatre in Freeport, Ill., at 7 p.m. CT. The movie features Little Cubs Field, which is a replica of Wrigley Field and located in Freeport.

There is limited seating of 350 for this event. Tickets are on sale at the Little Cubs Field gift shop or the Freeport-Stephenson County Visitors Center. If the event does not sell out prior to the showing, tickets may be available at the door.

The event is a fundraiser for Little Cubs Field. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children up to (but not including) age 12. A maximum of 20 tickets (any combination of adult and child) may be purchased by one individual.

The documentary, in the making since February 2008, is a celebration of hope, loyalty, faith and the extraordinary love affair between Chicago, the Cubs and their fans.
