8/9 Minor League report

Ryan Rowland-Smith gave up one run on two hits over six innings but it wasn’t enough as Iowa lost, 5-1, to Reno on Wednesday. Mike Jacobs hit a three-run homer in the 10th for the game winner. Blake Parker threw one inning in relief.

Junior Lake had two hits and one RBIs in Tennessee’s 7-2 loss to Huntsville. Dallas Beeler took the loss, giving up six runs over three innings.

Daytona’s game against Lakeland was postponed because of rain. The two teams were to play a doubleheader Thursday.

Paul Hoilman and Tim Saunders each homered in Peoria’s 14-inning, 9-8 loss to Burlington. Zeke DeVoss had three hits, Hoilman had two RBIs, and Saunders reached base four times. Dustin Geiger had two hits and three RBIs.

Rock Shoulders hit a fifth inning grand slam, his seventh home run of the season, to help Boise beat Everett, 8-6. Jose Arias gave up three runs over five innings and struck out six for the win. Dan Vogelbach hit his fourth home run and drove in two.

Shawon Dunston had two hits, including a triple, and one RBIs in Mesa’s 5-2 win over the Dodgers. Albert Almora extended his hitting streak to six games and also drove in a run.


* Right-hander Jake Brigham was placed on Tennessee’s disabled list. Brigham, acquired from the Rangers in the Geovany Soto deal, has given up eight earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in two starts for the Smokies.

* The Peoria Chiefs have added Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler to the roster from the Cubs’ Arizona Rookie League team. Soler will likely join the Chiefs on Friday.

7/31 Minor League report

Jim Adduci hit his second home run in Iowa’s 5-3 loss to New Orleans. Chris Rusin took the loss, giving up one earned run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out six.

Greg Rohan hit his fifth home run in Tennessee’s 6-3 win over Pensacola in the first game of a doubleheader. Eric Jokisch picked up the win, giving up three runs over seven innings. Matt Szczur had three hits. In the second game, Casey Weathers picked up the win, throwing a scoreless fifth, in a 3-2 victory. Frank Batista posted his 19th save.

P.J. Francescon threw six shutout innings in Daytona’s 8-4 win over Ft. Myers. Rubi Silva had three hits and one RBIs.

Zeke DeVoss hit his fourth home run in Peoria’s 5-3 loss to Beloit. Javier Baez had another hit, and was batting .363 in July.
